A petition calling for prison reform in the United States, which can help the former kosher meat executive Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, has exceeded the goal of signators.
The Prisology organization announced that it has not only reached its goal of sending the U.S. Sentencing Commission 50,000 letters in support of sentencing reform — but surpassed it by at least 27,000.
As the Sentencing Commission was seeking public comment on what its priorities should be for the 2018 Guideline amendment cycle, the petition is lobbying to reduce overly harsh federal sentences.
Rubashkin, who has been harshly sentenced to 27 years and is currently serving in the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, NY, has called on his supporters to sign the petition.
He was convicted in November 2009 of 86 counts of financial fraud, including bank fraud, mail and wire fraud and money laundering. His sentence was called excessive by judges and legal experts. The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal on October 1, 2012.
With around 77,000 support letters that were signed online and by mail, the Prisology organization based in Mansfield, Texas, hopes to change the sentencing guidelines.
In a statement to COLlive.com, Prisology wrote: “Thank you for your message and support for this initiative. We definitely saw a spike in support from members of the Jewish community.”
The organization added, “We are familiar with the travesty of justice that happened to Sholom and Judge Linda Reade who refused to show compassion.
“We are sincerely thankful to all of your readers for their support and look forward to the Commission taking favorable action on our effort so that Sholom and all other affected prisoners may benefit!”
To all those that complain about this petition that it will also release real criminals – it is still worth it.

Why should people convicted of drug offenses or other crimes have to be in prison many years extra than they deserve simply because of some faulty mathematical equation?
It is true this will help others aside from Shalom mordechai and rightly so.
But I didn’t sign this petition.
If it passes, real criminals – .Murderers, Rapists, Druglords and Gang leader- – all the people who should never see the light of day, will ALL have years lopped off, abd Rubashkin will still R”L sit for 29 year.
We need a reversal or pardon. A reduction as pettioned for will harm everyone.
This artical gives credit where credit is not due. Prisology was not looking to ger Rubashkin released early. Their aim is the release of drug offenders and other real criminals. Any benefit to Rubashkin would be accidental, unintended by the prisology people
Since they are also trying to help drug-dealers, as they themselves mention, I wrote in the comments section [on the Prisology form] that I am writing for Mr. Rubashkin.

Signing this petition doesn’t mean anything is going to happen for Sholom overnight. This is merely a public petition, One similar to that of legalizing majuiana, and anything else that wants to prove it should be on some ballet in some small election. We all signed a petition. This was brought forth by an organization that is trying to reform the US sentencing stats so that when people are convicted of a crime and found guilty they’re serving a sentence that meets the crime. Are you too delusional to realize that Rubashkin was sentenced under the same guidelines as all other prisoners, and therefore if Rubashkin’s sentence was too harsh, most likely he’s not the only one? You may not know this but Rubashkin’s sentence was well within the federal sentencing guidelines. Now, if the guidelines called for a harsh sentence for Rubashkin, don’t you think he’s not the only victim? Or are you one of those who only cares when it’s a Jew…
Not a pardon, the case should be thrown out because the ‘judge’ was not a neutral party due to her involvement in the failed attempt to convict him of using illegals. She was not allowed to judge this case to begin with.

This is not a SMR petition, this is a petition to shorten the prison sentencing table for ALL criminals, REAL criminals.
This petition will bring back drug dealers, muggers, stabbers, etc.
If we want to help SM, we need another way that does not involve releasing real criminals early from prison.
This is just purely a waste of time
Better get the 6 million dollars raised for lawyers back that was wasted and file for a pardon
