Strong storms caused flash flooding across the Tri-State area and even sparked a tornado warning in New Jersey on Thursday.
In New York City, flash flooding briefly closed sections of major roadways across the city just as the evening rush hour approached, and LIRR suspended service on one of its busiest lines as flooding covered tracks.
Some drivers on the Clearview Expressway in Queens ended up standing on the roofs of their stranded vehicles and a tractor trailer nearly fully submerged. The waters eventually receded and traffic slowly resumed, but officials still pleaded with people to say home. Rain was expected to fall through the night.
The powerful storm brought torrential rain to New York City on Thursday afternoon, and flooding was seen at the main Shul of 770 Eastern Parkway at Chabad Headquarters and on the streets around the neighborhood.
Due to inches of water flooding the basement Shul, water entered the lockers on the lower floor of 770, placing Tefillin and other personal articles at risk of water damage.
Bochurim were seen breaking the locks and opening the wet lockers, and removing the tefillin and other belongings. They informed that the articles were placed in a different location downstairs for safekeeping.

We appreciate them, saving our items from the lockers, but they didn’t have to snip the locks open and they could’ve used the master key to carefully open them all up. I find this to be a little bit reckless and unappreciative.
These are combination locks. There is no master key.
.
Everyone brings there own locks
There is no master key to the lockers in 770
The bochurim did not decided to do it on there own Kratz told them to do it
The
When short on time, and dealing with so many lockers and a HUGE financial loss, they need to do what is quickest.
Thank you to the dedicated Bochurim for your incredible Ahavas Yisroel.
They saved your $3000 tefilin, but you’re upset they didn’t save the $10 lock?
The person who has access to the master key was probably busy dealing with other areas that are flooding.
When was the last time you went to 770?
I’m not aware that this exists. There is something called a master key, but that doesn’t work in this context.
Most locks use codes not keys and cost $10, that’s like complaining that firefighters broke your window, you do what you gotta do in an emergency
These are mostly number locks, personal locks bought by the locker renters. The only way to open is to snip
Most of them have a code, if you have ever been down there.
And stop trying to find the bad in everything, just say thank you
Sir, many of the lockers do not have keys but rather combuinations, it seems like you were never there.
Would u rather buy a new 2 doller lock or a few thousand doller teffilan?
They were trying to be helpfull
What numbers?
