A fabricated health notice shared on WhatsApp is once again causing panic in the Jewish community in Brooklyn – this time in Crown Heights specifically.
A message titled “ALERT FROM KINGS COUNTY HEALTH DEPT” read that “anyone who visited the following locations in Kings county may have been exposed to Coronavirus (COVID-9).”
It went on to name Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway and the Yeshiva dormitory at 749 Eastern Parkway as the locations where virus contamination has been identified. 770, home to the largest shul in the neighborhood, is frequented on a daily basis by hundreds of people.
A senior director for Media Relations at NYC Health + Hospitals, which operates the public hospitals and clinics in New York City, told COLlive.com:
“It’s unclear to me who the Kings County Health Department is as we have only one Health Department in New York City. I don’t know any of this to be true and have referred your email to the Health Department for follow-up.”
He added, “An official statement should come from the Health Department, all I can tell you is that this message did not come from Kings County Hospital.”
This is the second time, within 24 hours, that a fraudulent message has been written and irresponsibly shared on social media. A notice on Wednesday claimed that the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention called to cancel all Pesach hotel programs. A CDC official said they did not issue such a notice.
For now….
The hoax is that the WhatsApp post came from YWN. But the substance of the post is most likely accurate. it is probable that people in CH already have COVID-19, and one of those individuals infected prob entered 770. the reality is that the frum communities will be one of the first in the US to get the epidemic. it’s kinda like measles that only spread around the frum communities in America (and while it is fun to say that it’s because Jews don’t vaccinate the reality is that Frum ppl have the same vaccination rate as the overall American… Read more »
Still why is there any sanitizing hand sanitizer or hand wipers
Why is there no hand sanitizer or wipers wipes Clorox wipes Aseven Aseventy why isn’t there any signs on the wall not to cough and people spaces or sneeze in people’s faces
If you need a sign telling you not to sneeze in people’s faces, then you shouldn’t be leaving your house
Do a better job. Simple as.
Boruch Hashem its not true.
How evil can you be!!
Not evil rather childish stupidity…
Baruch HaShem! Moshiach Now
This location is in California made up whatsapp
With all the activity and lack of hygiene at 770 within a week it will hit
Bh for now 770 is fine but the hygiene is not very good there.
There needs to be soap and hand sanitizers in 770.
By the restroom in the back of 770 there is nothing there and by the restrooms in the basement of 770 there is only one soap dispenser which is always empty.
770 has to take action now if they don’t want to be the next breeding ground for the virus.
770 needs a deep cleaning tdd here are these two ladies by women section that bring food and everything and put it there to celebrate different occassions
Let’s not put people at risk and be responsible
why not to bring with you any extra soap
Don’t be stupid, this isn’t just about getting sick it’s about being aware that its happening right now in the world, and you have to take the necessary precautions.
In testing, it continues to be shown that washing one’s hands with soap and water does a much better job than hand sanitizer can possibly do. Soap dispensers should be provided at every sink, it doesn’t even have to be antibacterial soap!
Just thought, instead of complaining there is no liquid soap, tissues at 770, or at you’re at own shul, community center schools, etc when shopping buy one extra bottle liquid soap, tissues and donate. That would help the whole community, in fact, whoever reading this it would be an idea to do it for their own community around the world. This is a chance to do a mitzvah of helping your fellow Jew.
What’s with this new law of not having more then 500 people in one place???
What will be with davening in 770???
very thoughtful idea, but if you’re going to bring soap to 770, make sure it’s in liquid form and make sure YOU fill up the soap dispenser(s) yourself. just leaving a bottle of soap in 770 is a great invitation to wastefulness and/or someone just assuming it’s o.k. to walk off with it. after all, they’ll say,”it’s intended for the public” and they’re “the public.”
