Two years ago, an unprecedented project was launched by the Iggud Talmidei Hakvutzah for bochurim learning in 770. The idea was to encourage learning outside the regular hours of seder by offering generous stipends to the bochurim involved, thereby removing any financial concerns that would otherwise keep them occupied during those times.
The program turned out to be wildly successful with tens of bochurim completing full mesechtas of Gemara, entire sections of Shulchan Aruch, and countless sichos and maamorim.
As the excitement of Tishrei in 770 died down and seder went back to normal, this year’s program was introduced to the bochurim, many of whom immediately signed up for the different tracks being offered.
The degree of dedication and seriousness on the part of the bochurim is evidenced by their performance during the tests they are required to take at the end of each month. After passing the tests, they are presented with their stipends at the start of the following month.
This year’s program has five learning tracks which the bochurim can choose from. The first is a chassidus track where the bochurim learn through the entire hemshech “Samech Vov” of maamorim from the Rebbe Rashab over the course of the year. The second is a halacha track where the bochurim learn through chelek aleph of the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch including hilchos Pesach with a focus on the practical application of the halacha. The third is a gemara track where the bochurim learn one daf each day and complete meseches Gittin and Shevuos by the end of the year. The fourth is a track focused on the learning of inyonei geulah umoshoiach during which the bochurim learn through the Rebbe’s sichos that discuss these ideas. The fifth is a more in-depth study of gemara that includes Tosfos with the goal of finishing the entire meseches Gittin by the end of the year.
As the amount of bochurim involved in the program has grown from year to year, more funds were needed to support the program. To answer this call, many people from the community, seeing the incredible opportunity for a partnership in supporting Torah, came forward to foot the bill.
The opportunity that this program affords the bochurim enhances their year in an incredible way and its success really speaks for itself. Walking into 770 during a lunch break or late at night, one will find bochurim enrolled in the program diligently studying, intent on keeping the pace of the grueling schedule.
