A major fire broke out late Tuesday afternoon at the Mishkan Shalom synagogue in Teverya, Israel, and its seven Torah scrolls were burned.
Four firefighting teams, under the command of Rabbi Reshef Moshe Azulai, were dispatched to the area, and the teams reported that it appeared that the fire was ignited in the area of the Aron Kodesh.
After a short time the firefighters managed to gain control of the fire, which had engulfed the entire building.
“When I arrived along with the fire department, the sight was horrific, as the Sifrei Torah were up in flames,” said United Hatzalah EMT Rami Levi.
“It was a miracle that no one was injured, or worse.”
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
