The annual Israeli Independence Day festival took place Sunday in Los Angeles, with thousands of Israelis participating.
Los Angeles Valley Shluchim Rabbi Yossi Malka and Rabbi Yochanaon Baitelman run a booth every year at the festival, offering to put tefillin on participants and distributing Shabbos candles.
32 Shluchim from the Valley Area of Los Angeles, under the auspices of Rabbi Joshua B. Gordon, participated. A booth was also set up to advertise local Chabad summer camps, and encourage registration.
Approximately 6,000 people visited the Chabad booths, with 2,500 Shabbos candle kits distributed.
“Over 1500 people came to put on tefillin,” said Rabbi M. Einbinder, “Some said the last time they put on tefillin was at our booth last year.”
The mivtzoim at the festival was sponsored by Yossi Schneerson of California.
