Six new bochurim have arrived to a new Semicha program which will take place at the Tzemach Tzedek Community Centre in Sydney, Australia.
The six students from around the world will join other students from Sydney to complete a Rabbinical Course over the next year, which is directed by Rabbi Avrohom Perlow, Rabbi Berel Light and Rabbi Yehoshua Blasenstein.
Bochurim Elchonan Bartfield, Mayer Brook, Dovber Chriqui, Mendel Duchman, Mendel Gurkov and Eliezer Shur received a warm welcome, including dancing at the International airport by some of the high school boys from Kesser Torah College, who will also be part of an after school program throughout the year.
“This is a very exciting time for The Tzemach Tzedek community, as well as the broader Sydney Community,” said Shimon Joseph, one of the coordinators of the program.
“Aside from the studying they will be doing every day, the students will be involved in after school programs, nightly learning programs, communal events and more,” Joseph said.
Mendel Gurkov, one of the students, added, “we are very excited to be part of the new Semicha program in Sydney. We are looking forward to meeting the community over Sukkos and setting up many shiurim,” he said.
An official welcoming event will take place in a month for the wider community.
Finally, with the help of Benny Amzalak, Rabbi Light, Shimon Joseph and whoever else was involved, sydney finaly has some fine chassidisher bochurim who can set an example for our community and be a beacon of light as they learn and teach torah without end! Welcome and looking forward!
