Around 500 people, 10% of the Glasgow Jewish community attended the eighth Lubavitch of Scotland Kosher Food and Wine Expo this past Sunday, organized by Shlucha Mrs. Sora Jacobs of Chabad of Scotland.
Many people were amazed that Lubavitch were able to attract numerous new people to the event, the first of which was held in 1973, in addition to the core of the community.
The event was opened by Adam and Anita Berkley, supporters of Lubavitch for many years, and Rabbi Moshe Rubin praised the work of Lubavitch and their drive to organise such an event to promote kashrus in the community.
Numerous companies who manufacture and distribute Kosher food and wines donated their products for tasting and for take home samples. Whole Foods Food Market, Grant’s Smoked Salmon and Lochduart Smoked Salmon companies attended in person.
Guests enjoyed sampling L’Chaim’s Restaurant home made soups, latkes, chopped liver and salt beef. Raffle winners enjoyed prizes donated by Whole Foods Market, Grant’s Smoked Salmon and two couples enjoyed afternoon tea provide by L’Chaim’s Restaurant.
There was ongoing Challa Baking for children and adults with Karen Levy, Kid’s Corner run by Mindelle Greenhill, L’Chaim’s Deli Food produced by the restaurant chef’s was on sale.
Numerous cooking, baking and salad demonstrations took place throughout the day for adults and children given by guest chef from London Denise Phillips, Tzirl Jacobs – wife of Mendel Jacobs and Rochel Jacobs from Birmingham.
Cookery Books and Judaica, the latest Really Kosher Food Guide and Rabbi Mendel’s Official Scottish Jewish Tartan was on sale.
The Expo was an educational project of Lubavitch of Scotland and not a fundraising event. It was organised and arranged by Scottish Lubavitch shluchim for 42 years Rabbi Chaim and Sora Jacobs.
L’Chaim’s (Lubavitch) Restaurant is the only Shomer Shabbos, Glatt Kosher Restaurant under constant hashgocha in Scotland using only Kedassia or MH Shechita.
