Chof Av 5732. The Rebbe is farbrenging for the yartzeit of his father, Harav Levi Yitzchok Schneerson OBM.
Like every year, the Rebbe makes a Hadran. This time, it’s on Maseches Taanis.
The topic is Korban Ha’eitzim, wood offerings in the Beis Hamikdash.
In the span of 45 minutes, the Rebbe connects a Gemara in Menachos with a story in Taanis; a Yerushalmi in Shekalim and a Rambam in Sefer Avodah.
Seven arguments between Rebbi and his colleagues are illuminated with one question: how do we view expressions in Torah and Chazal? Must we understand them in their most literal, all-encompassing sense, or not?
The genius is unparalleled. The geshmak is beyond description.
