39 Years Later, Toronto Breaks Ground for New Building

39 years after the groundbreaking of their existing Chabad Center in Toronto, Ontario, Chabad of Toronto held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building to accommodate their many programs.

The proceedings began with a recitation of Psalm 120, followed by the Rebbe’s letter read by Head Shliach Rabbi Zalman A. Grossbaum written in honor of the first groundbreaking held Yud Aleph Nissan 39 years ago to the day and for the exact purpose, at the same location.

In addition to a timely message and a Bracha to participants the Rebbe noted, “The building should be completed much sooner than anticipated.”

Mrs. Esther Grossbaum read the Education Day Proclamation issued by the City of Vaughan and signed by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. Peter Kent, MP for the region extended greetings on behalf of the Government of Canada.

Due to COVID restrictions, the proceedings were limited in nature but served to “start the process” as emphasized by the Rebbe on numerous occasions.

The new building will be located approximately 50 ft. to the south of the existing building at 770 Chabad Gate.

“The structure will boast a state-of-the-art women’s Mikvah and the much-needed multi-purpose rooms for our large day camp and growing Friendship Circle accessed from a separate entrance,” said Rabbi Grossbaum.
