Thirty-one students were honored by Chabad of Mineola Long Island at its 30th annual Good Deed Awards for Long Island Teenagers.
Teens chosen for this “Academy Award” of leadership were recognized for their outstanding acts of goodness and kindness to society as well as their pioneering activity in the transmission of value and identity.
The awards were presented at a VIP ceremony led by Rabbi Anchelle Perl with presenters including the Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, District Attorney Anne Donnelly, Town of North Hempstead Jen DeSena, Chairman of NIFA Richard Kessel and business and lay leadership.
The Good Deed Awards are an annual recognition of the charitable acts of high school students from throughout Long Island. This year’s honorees are once again a reminder of the selfless nature of the majority of youth and the endless value of this ongoing program—socially, educationally, culturally.
Hailing from more than 17 schools, are teenagers who visited nursing homes, devoted their time to ill children, worked with special needs students, volunteered at animal shelters, or even worked on projects to benefit the environment—all on their own time and of their own volition.
At a time when so much negative makes the headlines, the Chabad of Mineola set out for the past 30 years, to identify the vast good so inherent in our youth and help the wider community appreciate it.
With one voice, business, government and community leaders come together, each year, to honor and thank outstanding teenagers for their significant achievement, excellence, effectiveness and creativity as positive role models.
