Over 300 shluchim-rabbanim attended a special Yom Iyun – a day of study in the halachos of chuppah and kiddushin, which is hosted by Machon Lemaan Yilmedu in Eretz Yisrael.
Opening remarks were delivered by the director of Lemaan Yilmedu, Rabbi Yisrael Mel in which he laid out the details of the packed program.
Chief Rabbi of Holon Yochanan Gurary, a member of the Beis Din Rabbanei Chabad, opened the first session with an informative talk on the subject of seder ha’chuppa and questions that arise. He has been involved for years with the important project of training young men and Shluchim for tests given by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel (rabanut harashit).
Rabbi Pinchas Altheus, director of the marriage bureau of the rabbanut of Holon, with his years of experience in chuppa and kiddushin, provided professional guidance on getting acquainted with couples and registering them, the chuppa process and more.
During lunch, participants watched a video sent by Israel’s Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef who blessed the rabbanim with siyata dishmaya in everything they do. He clarified the important halachos in the writing of a kesuba and conducting chuppa v’kiddushin, the witnesses, etc.
His Ashkenazic counterpart, Israel’s Chief David Lau led the main session on the subject of chuppa v’kiddushin, having many years of experience in this sensitive area.
The Yom Iyun is part of the Torah revolution of Machon Lemaan Yilmedu around the world as it makes the world of halacha accessible to the public, with an emphasis on practical halacha. This conference followed a course on Siddur Chuppa v’Kiddushin for rabbanim and shluchim.
