The shofar is sounded in camp! Wait…. In camp? Yes! This year Rosh Hashana begins for many before the school year.
If you are a mother, you are probably thinking “how will I prepare before getting home from the country?” “Will I have time to buy carrots?” “I must find a recipe for my raisin challah while still upstate!”
But did you know that many mothers in our community aren’t concerned about that? No! It’s not that they don’t cook tzimis, rather they simply cannot afford to buy carrots and even flour!
Mothers and fathers in our Crown Heights community need help buying food for this Tishrei. Where do they turn for assistance? They turn to Chevra Simchas Shabbos V’Yom Tov – CSSY!
On Rosh Hashana 5738 the Rebbe spoke about helping Crown Heights families. He explained that for Pesach, one Yom Tov, there is a Mitzvah of “Maos Chittim” – paying for Pesach food. However Tishrei when there are four Yomim Tovim, we don’t find anyone collecting for those families in need of food and other holiday needs. The Rebbe suggested to open a fund and feed the hungry in Crown Heights over the month of Tishrei.
Shimshon Stock Ob”m took to task this mission and immediately opened a fund that week. Since then Chevra Simchas Shabbos V’yom Tov or CSSY has been feeding Crown Heights families every Shabbos and Yom Tov. Each week CSSY distributes food vouchers to over 150 families who are struggling and need assistance. When Tishrei comes around there are an additional 200 families seeking our help. That’s at least 350 families who will seek our help this Tishrei.
Now that we are “sheloshim yom kodem hachag – 30 days before Rosh Hashana” CSSY is already receiving calls for help and began distributing funds for Tishrei.
CSSY will be feeding and clothing over 350 families this Tishrei and we need you to partner with us to help bring their Yom Tov needs.
These are not strangers, they are YOUR friends, YOUR neighbors, YOUR relatives. they are turning to us because they are afraid to turn to you, but they need YOU!
Please join in this special Mitzvah and fulfill the Rebbe’s request for this Tishrei.
