This past Tuesday the European Parliament in Brussels commemorated the European Day of the victims of Holocaust, which falls on January 27.
The official ceremony, attended by dozens of Members of Parliament, Ambassadors, politicians, Holocaust survivors and mass-media was opened with speeches by Professor Hans Gert Poettering, President of the European Parliament, the Mayor of Oświęcim (Auschwitz, Poland) Janusz Marszałek, and Rabbi Levi Matusof on behalf of the European Jewish Community Center.
The opening of the exhibition “The Mound of Remembrance and Reconciliation” was the beginning of a series of activities in European Parliament commemorating the Holocaust which will take place in the coming weeks.
“The Mound of Remembrance and Reconciliation” is a project by the City of Auschwitz building a peaceful world one stone at a time, composed of selected donated stones.
Rabbi Eliezer Gurary, Shliach in Krakow, Poland and Rabbi Yehuda Teichtel, Shliach in Berlin are actively involved in the project.
To #1, in case you haven’t read the article clearly, it says it’s to COMMEMORATE the holocaust. For #2 and the other skeptics, it is so humorous how you, with obviously no inside knowledge of the importance of this, are condemning these well-respected, truly chassidishe shluchim without giving them the benefit of the doubt and a bit of trust.
To #3, your comments are too disgusting for words. “we need to be jewish not a persecuted people…”?!?!?! How dare you treat the memory of so many precious yidden in so cavalier a manner?! I am astounded!
holocaust its been overused everyone now claims genocide and to fight genocide from obama to europe to hamas
this is a defunct concept
besides
in the words of ahmadinejad what did the arabs do that gurion should make his state in israel couldnt he of made it in germany??
otherwise we need to be jewish not a persecuted people not good enough for a identity legitimization
How can a Lubavitcher Shliach be involved in RECONCILIATION?! 6 million neshomos and NOW we are going to reconcile?!
Where have we fallen to?!
