If teacher-training transforms the classroom than better training will certainly lead to even better results. Now, thanks to Lubavitch teachers’ group Igud Hamelamdim, over 75 new and returning teachers have undergone superior training by expert chinuch coach Rabbi Michel Rottenberg.
The popular course covered the fundamentals that a teacher should know, such as preparing and presenting an engaging and comprehensible lesson, motivating students to love learning, and creating a positive and productive school atmosphere.
Last week, another 25 teachers completed the extensive course, joining the many successful graduates in schools around the globe. The lessons were Torah based, full of quotes from Chazal and Halacha, yet also exceptionally practical. Rabbi Rottenberg taught the teachers to use their own judgment and to insist on doing what is best for the student.
Rabbi Avrohom Bluming, director of Igud Hamelamdim, was most impressed with the teachers’ dedication. “The teachers came to this course on their own. They invested time and money for the sake of their students. They really earn my respect.”
A unique session this season was delivered by veteran teacher Rabbi Osher Oster on how to have the greatest impact on students. He elaborated on how a teacher’s own values will inevitably spill over to his students, which makes it essential for the teacher to be in a good place himself.
Rabbi Oster praised the night kolel run by Igud Hamelamdim which helps teachers be inspired in order to inspire their students.
On the eve of Chof Av, the graduates convened to mark the completion of their training. Noting Reb Levik’s yahrtzeit, Rabbi Bluming shared a thought on chinuch by Reb Levik; rooted in kabbala, but with practical relevance.
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Simpson, principal of United Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Crown Heights, shared insight from his own experience, and applauded the much-needed course whose positive results he observes in his school. Rabbi Rottenberg admired the participants’ dedication to the rigorous course and said that he looked forward to mentoring them as they applied the new lessons in their classroom.
Rabbi Mendy Wilshanski, a participating teacher, offered deep thanks for the practical and meaningful guidance and shared the hope that they go on to become exemplary melamdim who will make a long-term positive impact on their students.
This endeavor sounds like a long-awaited blessing. Could some of the main points be posted? I think they might give insight to what quality teachers should be like.
We need mechanchim like Rabbi Oster who convey to teacher real chinuch, and not the superficial techniques and the latest fads in education (which, like all fads, come and go).
What a great organization that helps keep teachers up to par with the latest techniques to better educate the next generation
with such training and such teachers our future is BH looking bright!!

As a teacher, I can tell you that it’s impossible to excite your students about learning if you’re not excited about learning yourself. I know that my personal learning is crucial for my students.
