More than 1500 Lubavitch Chassidim and Bochurim, young Yeshivah students, walked for hours on Shvi-i Shel Pesach, the Seventh Day of Pesach, for the traditional Tahalucha/March to Shuls in New York’s five boroughs.
They walked up to 3 hours each way from Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights to some 200 shuls in Boro Park, Flatbush, Brighton Beach, Bensonhurst, Sheepshead Bay, Canarsie, Sea Gate, Howard Beach, Queens (3 hours) ; Manhattan and Bronx (4 hours).
The marchers shared the Rebbe’s inspirational messages for Pesach. They also stressed the specific importance of Achron Shel Pesach, the Eight Day of Pesach and the custom instituted by the Baal Shem Tov to hold Moshiach’s Seuda, the feast of Moshiach, on the last day of Pesach.
“The Rebbe instructed us to go on Tahalucha and would escort the group of marchers from the entrance of 770,” said Rabbi Shmuel Butman, Director of Lubavitch Youth Organization, which oversees the annual effort.
“This was indeed a great and cherished moment when the ‘Commander in Chief’ left his room to personally ‘see off his troops’ and these dedicated soldiers who went on Tahalucha are continuing the work of the Rebbe,” said Rabbi Butman.
The activity was organized by Rabbi Yossi Butman, Project Director of the Lubavitch Youth Organization and coordinated by Rabbi Yosef Goldwasser, Rabbi Shlomo Zalmanov and Shaya Zalmanov.
This year much research was employed and many additional Shuls were visited. Before Yom Tov many Rabbis called the offices of the Lubavitch Youth Organization, or sent emails, to make sure that “Lubavitch is coming.”
Rabbis and Shul representatives also called the offices of the Lubavitch Youth Organization to ask for representatives to help them conduct the Sedorim in their communities. Each request was dully fulfilled.
The entire Tahaluchos/Marches project was conducted with the specific coordination with New York City Police Department. “It was a pleasure to work with them” said Rabbi Yossi Butman, “they did their work with great sensitivity, efficiency and dedication.”
