The largest Shabbat meal for young students and professionals from South America took place last Friday night in Argentina.
1500 people joined from countries such as Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay for a united Shabbos, enjoying a full 3 course catered meal, singing and activities.
The Friday night meal, held in the prestigious La Rural convention center in Buenos Aires, went on until 3 am.
The event was organized by the student center “El Lazo – Juventud Judía” run by Rabbi Shlomo and Rachel Levy and Zalmi and Rivka Levy, Shluchim in Buenos Aires for the past 23 years, dedicated full time to programming for students and young professionals.
A week before the event tickets were sold out, and there were 200 people on the waiting list, organizers said.
“The feeling at the event was incredible,” said Rabbi Zalmi Levy. “Everyone felt proud to be Jewish. For many of them, this was their first time at a Shabbat meal. Many wanted to reconnect to Judaism, and many friendships were formed!”
