A recent Shabbaton in Poland has attracted some 140 Jewish men, women and children from around the country which was once home to 3.5 million Jews, Europe’s largest Jewish population.
The Shabbaton was organized by Chabad Lubavitch of Poland led by Rabbi Shalom DovBer and Dina Stambler, and Chabad-Lubavitch of Krakow led by Rabbi Eliezer and Esther Gurary, and Rabbi Refael and Dini Popack.
A beautiful hotel was rented for the Shabbos and had a cross-section of the Jewish community participate including the director of the holy Radomsker Rebbe’s Ohel in Radomsk, several hours drive from Warsaw.
Guest speakers included the author and lecturer Rabbi Chaim Dalfin of New York, Shliach Rabbi Zalman Wishedsky, of Basel-Switzerland, Shlucha Mrs. Esther Piekarski of Tel Aviv and speaker Rabbi Asi Spiegel.
“It is customary to say of special things that they ‘made history’, but this Shabbaton was historic on every scale of Polish Jewry since the ghetto’s liquidation,” said Rabbi Wishedsky.
“And as much as it was historic, it was also a futuristic event, one that influenced and will further influence the future of Polish Jewry.”
