One of the greatest joys in life is – with Hashem’s great Kindness- seeing happy kids, may Hashem bless them all.
Seeing them singing, dancing, playing, davening, laughing, learning. Just having a grand old time with friends.
What joy to see their excitement as they arrive…and oh, so hard to watch their tears as they say goodbye to their friends and to camp.
Gan Yisroel camp for European Tzeirei Hashluchim and Shluchos in Sweden has just ended the three week girls camp and the boys are now in full swing, marking the 42nd camp session in 15 years.
They are the children of Chabad shluchim – mostly living in remote areas. It can sometimes be lonely, far from extended family and with very few Jewish friends.
Camp is one of the great highlights of their year.
Imagine the joy of a child who meets an online school classmate in real life. Someone who is usually the size of a fingernail on a computer screen.
Imagine the joy of spending precious time together with real live friends.
So many precious moments, BH!
Watching an entire 3-4 hour farbrengen of the Rebbe – with the whole camp. The inspiration of hours spent in the Rebbe’s company. The uplifted rejoicing, dancing and singing at its conclusion.
Canoeing on a lake, sparkling in the sunshine.
Swimming on an island beach, laughing in the waves.
Swooping down roller coasters at Liseberg, yelling Shema Yisroel and their favorite camp songs.
Shabbos in camp!
The girls sitting at late night, candle lit farbrengens. Singing heartfelt nigunim and sharing just one more story. Where souls are on fire and eyes are filled with light..and tears.
Question and answer sessions and marshmallows and endless singing around the glowing fireplace.
Acting in colorwar plays. Each camper is a star! Painting, performing in dances. Writing songs. Sports. Swimming. Bowling. Games. Boat trips. Davening in the sunshine at the edge of a lake in the forest. Picking berries in the woods. Hearing birdsong at the foot of a waterfall.
Learning more than they realize they are learning in 4-5 formal and informal Torah study sessions a day. Their davening together reaches the very heavens.
Listening to the heavenly chorus of boyish voices answering Omein Yehei Shmei Rabba.
Calling out Pesukim and stirring Nigunim at the sea shore at the very spot the Frierdiker Rebbe left Sweden to the US in 1940.
Singing their hearts out…every single day.

“Camp really strengthens hiskashrus,” says Rabbi Alexander Namdar, director of Chabad Sweden, who founded and runs the camps together with his wife, Leah. “ When they go home, they are reinforced by the friendships they have made or strengthened. This year of Shnas Hakhel, there seems to be an extra special chayus in the air. The kids feel it, the staff feel it. That knowledge that they are all one family and the למען ושמעו ולמען ילמדו gives them a new strength in being chassidim and to continue their shlichus to bring Moshiach.”
“These kids are the real heroes of shlichus,” says director Leah Namdar. “We have the greatest admiration to the parents for raising such children. These campers grew up watching real devotion to shlichus and love for all the Jews of their cities. They reflect the Ahavas Yisroel of their upbringing in the most amazing way. We are also so grateful to our dedicated staff for the caring for each and every camper.”
Gan Yisroel for European Tzeirei Hashluchim Sweden is a project of Chabad Sweden in partnership with Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky and MyShliach.
The next generation of Jewish leaders are only getting better, BH.

Looks like a great camp atmosphere
Thank you so much, Rabbi and Mrs Namdar for the best camp ever! From the amazing staff to all the trips to the Farbrengens and question and answer sessions (a huge thank you to Mrs Namdar for that), every moment in camp is so special to me, and gives me strength to go back to my Shlichus.
Wohooo there’s me in the bottom right
