For the first time in history, a Simchas Beis Hashoeivah celebration was held in the town of Liberty, in New York’s Catskill Mountains.
Held on the first night of Chol Hamoed, over 1,000 people joined for the live music and joyous dancing held at the Shoprite Parking lot.
The event was organized by Chabad of Swan Lake, NY, directed by
Rabbi Yossi and Esther Hurwitz.
The celebration, which went on until 1:00 am, was a major show of unity, with Jewish people of all types and religious communities joining together in dance and music, with performances by singers Aryeh Leib Hurwitz and Yoel Falkowitz.
The lively and exciting atmosphere included entertainment for the children.
“We were also very concerned for the weather because the forecast predicted heavy rain throughout the night, and indeed the rain kept on pouring down the whole day,” said Rabbi Hurwitz. “But thank G-d by Havdala time the rain stopped, and we had pleasant weather,” he said.
