Actually, up until 6 years ago this song was not at all known in any circles. The Bishtiner rebbe, who considers himself a Lubavitch chosid, from petach tikveh, used to sing this song alot. He knows many extremely rare lubavitcher songs, stuff u won’t hear even in lubavitch. When a chosid of his, a y lemberger got married, (He was a yosom and therefore had massive wedding, bands musician etc) the choson was dancing with the Bishtiner, and asked the singer arele samet , a poilisher popstar, to sing this song. Very good question.
Rabbi Horowitz released a CD with this Nuggun about 10 years ago in honor of his Daughters Chassuna.
At the wedding very respectable Chassidim from Lelov and Rachtmashtrivka Chasidim were there, brought this niggun back to Yerushalayim to their Rebbe’s.
From there this niggun caught fire in Yerushalayim and the rest of the Poilishe world.
But its not the same nigun as the others….
Can anyone tell the history about when this tune became so popular in recent years, who started it ? Another great example of maynosecha Chutzah

This song was composed in honor of the Rebbes birthday יא ניסן תשדמ, by Sholom Halevi Horowitz. A similar chassidic song was sung by the chassidim of the tzemach tzedek. It was a very slow niggun, Rabbi Horowitz changed this slow niggun. He cut the last part. Added a new part in the middle and turned this, song into a fast niggun, since the Rebbe liked happy niggunim..This song is totally different than the original song. This song was sung at the Rebbes farbrengen. The Rebbe encouraged the niggun and made strongly with His hand for a months time. The words to… Read more »
