R’ Dovid Shimon Segelman, a member of the Lubavitch community in London, England was recently awarded with an MBE by Princess Anne.
The award, “to be made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of The British Empire,” was granted to Segelman for his services to the Jewish community in North London.
This included, among other things, his many years of work for Chizuk, a mental health support organization for the Jewish community; Ahada, a Jewish cross-communal bereavement counselling service and involvement with Drugsline, the Ilford-based center fighting addiction.
At the investiture at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, the 7th of Kislev, Princess Anne commented that it was obvious that Mr. Segelman had been adding one act of kindness after the other.
Segelman was accompanied by his wife Shoshana Segelman who works in Lubavitch House of London, his mother H. Segelman from Leeds, and his father in law, Professor P. Novak from Newcastle.
In an unprecedented move, another 23 members of Segelman’s family were invited into the palace grounds for official photographs.
Segelman was then greeted at the palace gates by the girls from Lubavitch Junior School of Stamford Hill.
As reported on COLlive, Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, Director of Chabad Lubavitch Centre and Drugsline in Ilford, Essex, UK, has also received an MBE.
for all you americans thats not the queen
thnx
got it!
Everyone receives their MBE from the Queen, with a personaly signed citation, but the presentation of the award takes place over a number of days, and it is simply the luck of the draw as to whether it is the queen or the princess who is doing the honors that day.
Hi , I’m Pesach Segelman , don’t think we’re related but it sounds like I am honored to share the name. My great grandfather Pesach Segelman got off the boat in Chelsea, Mass. from Belarus Russia , about 200 km south of Kiev. I have k’h’ eight children, six boys to carry on the name ,we’re in Lakewood, N.J., Waterbury Conn., Miami Beach,Fl. etc. congratulations to you all
the queen gave it to R Sufrin and the princess to R Segelman

There are no limits applied to the total number of members of the fourth and fifth classes, but no more than 858 Officers (OBE) and 1464 Members (MBE) may be appointed per year.
Mr Segelman really deserves it, he and his family help so many people out there who are in need and cares for them in such a special way, yet he is so humble and kind. Yosher Koach
From a very grateful person!
Nice to see someone receive this special honour! who nominated him and Rabbi Sufrin? Re the clouds today was actually very nice sunny day.
The weather in England is just to give the Americans something to talk about
The sky is not even shown in the picture – so it must be that your head is in the clouds!
Having said that, it is winter – (ever heard of that?) so clouds would not be unusual at this time of year.
Why do Americans always knock the weather in England…..why, it never rains and is never cloudy in NY?!
Mr Segalman deserves this honour, he is a very humble person. Not full of himself
Nachman sudak was honoured some 8 years ago
silly question No. 6 – it’s ENGLAND
why is only one class there?
cuz it’s london!!!!!
i stayed at the segelmans when i visited london amazing fam:)
How many people get this honor per year? Is it like something that a lot of people get, it’s just special when it’s a Lubavitcher because of the kiddush Hashem? Or is it very rare and for some reason, the queen seems to be favoring chabad? (which is a good thing of course)
Either way it’s great and it’s a big kiddush Hashem – so mazel tov!!
Actually, Rabbi Sudak received an OBE which is a slightly higher award. See here for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_British_Empire
a true kiddush hashem!
What beautiful pictures!
Nachman Sudak was honored last year.
