Rabbi Yisroel Labkowski and his wife Tzipora (nee Feldman) have been appointed as the new Shluchim to Lafayette, California.
They will be establishing a Chabad House serving the needs of the local Jewish community in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda – collectively known as Lamorinda, an area within Contra Costa County.
Lafayette, a city located 25 miles east of San Francisco on the North Coast of California, boasts a Jewish community of 5000 Jews, a large Reform congregation and a large Jewish preschool and primary school, but Orthodoxy is new in the area.
Owing to the high quality of its public schools and natural beauty, the area has become a magnet for Jewish families with children. The Labkowskis aspire to bring the beauty, meaning and excitement of authentic Yiddishkeit as well as the warmth and depth of Chassidus to both young and old.
The couple, with their son, Menachem Mendel, will be arriving in Lafayette in August, just in time for the Yomim Tovim. They are planning to begin immediately with high holiday services, Yom Tov programs, Friday night dinners and classes for both adults and children.
The new Shluchim were appointed by Rabbi Shlomo Cunin, Head Shliach of the West Coast. They would also like to thank Rabbi Yossi Cunin for making it happen.

I grew up in the area and know there is a need for real Yiddishkeit there… high cost of living and big liberal presence, the more start up funding the better
