Some of those favorite Klik bags might have more than chocolate in them…
Unilever, the European consumer goods company which owns an Israeli candy company, notified last Thursday that it is recalling 3 kinds of Klik snacks.
“In a routine Quality Assurance inspection that was performed in ROG plant, it was found that there is a concern regarding Listeria bacteria in 3 items with certain expiration dates,” it wrote in a letter.
The ones the company mentioned were:
Klik Ugi 75 grams with use-by dates from 8 July 2015 to 15 July 2015.
Klik XL Ugiot v’Deganim 85 grams with use-by dates from 16 July 2015 to 18 July 2015.
Klik In Nougat Halavi 38 grams with use-by dates from 31 March 2015 to 3 April 2015.
A notice on Janglo said that consumers who have purchased this product are asked to refrain from eating it.
Those that have these items in their possession should call 1-800-780-780 to receive a replacement product and have the recalled product collected.
Listeriosis, a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, is an important public health problem. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems.
Unilever said it is working with Israel’s Health Ministry to ensure a quick and complete withdrawal of the product, the site said, quoting Unilever that it is committed to ensuring the quality and safety of their products and apologizes for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
Unilever did add and so did Paskez Candy Co which is the overseas importer of Klik, that the issue is only related to Unilever’s product in Israel, and does not affect the manufacturing line that is exported.
Children eat too many sweets nowadays, and don’t really appreciate them as children did in past generations. Better that they be given as an occasional treat, and not an anytime/ any place one.
