February 23, 2014 9:33 pm

There was no slipping on ice, the truck was not backing up, it did not turn on a red. The 3 bochurim were standing on the curb, not crossing. After the truck was in middle of the turn, the niftar stepped off the curb without checking. The front right corner of the truck hit him, pulling him under the truck. Not the fault of the ice nor the driver.

Everyone in Crown heights should make it a priority to go to the Levaya, the Yeshivos and high schools should send their students. The shops on Kingston should close for the hour and go to 770. This young Bachurs life and tragic passing should be an inspiration to all of us and be the last Levaya in Gauls.

Our heart is with his family. yet I do agree with 105 history teaches us that HaShem hurts us when we aren’t as good as we should be. Lub have a very wrong respect for shul ! It’s a place to pray and thank HaShem to talk to HaShem and ONLY HaShem it’s not a men’s club we all must work on our selves . Also we never know when our last day will be so every day must in our minds be our last so we must take ADVANTAGE and do the most mitzvos we can

He didn't slip- the truck backed into him
February 23, 2014 6:56 pm

Read the article. He was crossing at the crosswalk, there WAS NO ICE at that spot- per the article. It’s pretty clear that the truck backed from carroll back onto kingston slightly round a corner and into him. It was completely the driver’s responsibility to make sure that no pedestrians were there on this very busy intersection. I hope the matter is pursued immediately and to the full extent of the law so that this will be prevented from recurring G”f.

The Belzer Rebbe’s Rebbetzin stood by his side and supported him in all that he did. When he built his famous shul, he remained awake for 1000 nights, and his Rebbetzin stayed awake with him to help him fight sleep. When she passed away, the Belzer Rebbe was heartbroken. At her hesped he said: “Everything that I have, I owe to her. If I was only able to, I would bring her back to life. BD"E BUT why did the truck turn
February 23, 2014 5:58 pm

i live on carroll and i’ve never seen a garbage truck turning on that corner

it always goes on kingston and takes the garbage cans from the corners and it takes residential garbage from the alley not like montgomery where the garbage is placed on the street

the sanitation worker is 1000000000000000% wrong

Change the Law - no traffic and pedestrians share the crosswalk
February 23, 2014 5:40 pm

It’s always scary to cross as a pedestrian and share the crosswalk with the turning right or left cars ….
Change the law , let pedestrian cross and then let the cars take right /left turns ….

#105 is talking to himself.
February 23, 2014 5:20 pm

Also as far as sidewalk I believe he was not standing on sidewalk when he slipped. Im curious to know how fast the truck drove and if he slowed down enough. It looks like he was neglegent in both aspects

February 23, 2014 3:51 pm

I was told that the truck was not sure who would go first, he as we’ll not knowing who’s going first so he took the chance together with the truck driver also taking the same chance….
But for a life better let the driver go first, even if it looks like he’s giving way then risking it! For as the driver point go view he’s not risking he’s own life but the pedestrian is!

No one understands HaShem's cheshbon
February 23, 2014 3:34 pm

How can anyone be so sure that there is only ONE “answer” ? Of course it is completely crucial that the Rabbonim get their act together for the sake of our future, but there are also far too many individuals in this community who have lost their moral, ethical, menchlikite, and emesdike Yiddshkeit compass. There is a mother & father today in Ukraine whose hearts were destroyed – not the right time to point fingers at others but certainly the right time to look deep and without delusions into our own behavior and fix it TODAY.

to #70 & 74 AND THE REST
February 23, 2014 3:26 pm

#70 you are out of your mind #74 is right! The one to point a finger at is Hashem! It is only with his permission that anything and everything happens the way it does! February 23, 2014 2:27 pm

Obviously everything is from heaven. We still have to make our streets as safe as possible. The corners in CH were all recently enlarged to protude, officially it was deemed safer. If this were on the old sidewalks there would be a lot more room between a pedestrian waiting on the corner and a vehicle turning.

According to the surveillance footage (from what might be Kingston pizza), it looks like the 3 Bochurim were talking on the corner. The light was green for both the truck and pedestrians. As the truck was in middle of turning the bochur started walking backwards onto the crosswalk, apparently still facing his friends and not the road, and walked right into the side of the truck. The truck was still moving, and he got pulled under the back wheels. It was not the trucks fault, as he turned while noone was on or approaching the sidewalk. But neither was it… Read more »

I drove on Kingston Ave 8.50 am and stopped at Kingston ave bakery when these 2 garbage trucks were carelessly blocking the street due to a double parked minivan.. I knew they were troubles. …..

BS”D to 34 (and 29)The Rabbonim are always quick to blame the clal. I am merely shifting the blame back to them. I disagree with you comment. I did not ever suggest that the community at large needs to do Tshuvah. In fact my comments were to defend the clal

February 23, 2014 10:54 am

BS”D to 29 You missed my point. We the clal are always blamed and the Rabbonin tell us we need more Ahavas Israel. I say the clal exhibits extreme Ahavas Israel and the only ones who need to do tshuvah are the Rabbonim themselves. It starts at the top. Who can heed there admonitions when they cannot get along? I don’t care what the ” reason(s)”are- there is absolutely no good reason for their not getting along

Always looking for someone or something to blame
February 23, 2014 10:50 am

I read in disbelief how small minded people are! The blood hadn’t dried out yet, the deceased body is still warm! And you looking for someone to blame! Looking for a scapegoat! All we are missing from this picture is the angry mob with pitchforks, the ignorance! A freak accident happened, maybe something avoidable maybe not Each and every one of us should come up with our own conclusion of how to better ourselves and be kind to one another without pointing the fingers at others, but don’t pin this tragedy on the rabonim or anyone else! Don’t try to… Read more »

He was crossing on green. The truck was turning. I think there are many corners where it is safer to cross on red because no vehicle comes speeding on a turn when you are crossing on red. (Better able to see to see what is coming toward the crosswalk).

NOW MORE BAD NEWS

terrible tragedy
February 23, 2014 10:43 am

While cleaning snow is VERY important – crucial, if such a terrible tragedy befalls our community r”l we should turn to Hashen and cry out – and not look for some “ice” to blame it on.

Hashem runs things, the ice may have been the “keily-tool” for the tragedy…
Let’s not loose focus.

This is a terrible tragedy for us all

BH. BDE. There should be signs in hebrew on all road junctions in crown heights, warning of the danger of going against the lights. and to go only by the lights. Specialy outside the EP. mikva, where I have seen people go out of the mikva, and try to cross EP, at that place, and not to go where the traffic lights are located.

oyyyyyy I am SO sorry to hear!!!

BS”D What a depressing way to start the day. it was terrible. Now the Rabbonam will pontificate about Ahavas Israel when they themselves can’t get along. All 3 of them. I PLACE THIS AT THERE DOORSTEPS.ENOUGH OF YOUR CHILDISH BEHAVIOR. How many tragedies Chas V’Sholem, how many youth will be m ‘ rachick . Do Tshuvah

You would think that the comunity leaders would have made sure the sidewalks and streets were clean

It’s deblasio time

New crosswalks are to blame
February 23, 2014 10:23 am

New traffic and sidewalks are the cause for this death.
Michael Bloomberg moved the sidewalks out into the middle of the roads, so now all you need is a small slip and ur under the wheels of a garbage truck.
So sad

Sick beyond comprehension
