Jewish volunteers have finished building a kitchen the size of a basketball court in Uman, Ukraine, where they plan to prepare 105,000 meals to serve to pilgrims next month.
The new kitchen, donated by philanthropist and entrepreneur Tzvi Bogomilsky of Florida, replaced a smaller setup used in previous years by volunteers and employees of Uman’s Hachnasat Orchim project: A giant dining hall with 15,000 seats where Jewish pilgrims come to eat before and during Rosh Hashanah.
Some 25,000 pilgrims, many of them from the Breslav hasidic movement, converge in Uman each year ahead of the Jewish New Year to pray near the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslav, who founded the Breslaver movement.
Meshulom (Charles) Rubinfeld, who is heading the project in Uman, said the kitchen’s 37 ovens and 17 burners will be used to cook 18 tons of meat, 13 tons of chicken and 105,000 pieces of fish, along with 250,000 challah rolls.
The cattle and poultry were slaughtered in Ukraine by butchers from the Badatz, Israeli’s most stringent kosher authority, who flew in from Israel. Other ingredients, all Badatz supervised, were shipped in from Israel in four containers.
Bogomilsky has been sponsoring the Kiddush meals for thousands in Uman during Yom Tov for over a decade, after he realized that many, if not most of the yomtov guests arrived with cans of food, unable to arrange for a suitable yomtov meal.
i heard Mr Ben Landa enterpenur and philinatropist also sponsors every year annonmusly over 15 thousand dollars towards the food
This is just one of many unbelievable things that tzvi does. A few years ago I was down in the dumps financially and someone put me in touch with tzvi. Even though I barely knew him he went above and beyond in putting me back on my feet. I am just one of many that he has helped. Keep up the great work!!!
Lazar is a big Baal Tzedakah and this is one of his many projects that he funds!
Under Rabbi M Bogomilsky at ULY….I have only good memories and greatest respect for the family…..he has clearly lots to have nachas from….
Shan Tovah to all the Bogo family, keep up the great work..!
ps. maybe the hanholos of today need to learn from these examples how to treat parents and talmidim…doesnt sound good whats going on today re chinuch and tuitions…in NY
Glad I dont live there….Elie in Canada
While it’s certainly a noble deed to help feed 15,000 people, I wouldn’t go so far as to call this one “charity”. It’s a bit perverse to say that those desiring to travel some great distance, and have put in all the physical and financial effort to do so are in need of “charity”. They’ve made a conscious choice to go somewhere remote, they should also include in that choice means to provide for themselves. I’m not – heaven forbid – judging anyone, but I really don’t get the charitable aspect of this. Noble, yes. Charitable, not convinced. Either way… Read more »
the Bogomilskys are an amazing family!!
Rabbi And Mrs Bogomilsky are Special and Giving and have amazing hearts and therefore their kids are the same!
levi -beverly hills
Go umrn that’s the place to be tishri
There is a shuk in Uman where one might not be ablw to find kosher meat but one can find plenty of fresh fish and veggies to choose from.
It would be nice for there to be this possibility at our rebbe’s ohel
I don’t know what your point is but this article is about someone who has not liven in crown heights for over 20 years. If your complaint is to the locals then you should definitely take it up with all the locals otherwise as you clearly wrote “you sound like sour grapes”. Also what makes you say they don’t take care of aniya Ircha as well.
I think this is a very beautiful mivtzah. Hoping not to sound like sour grapes I would like to say Aniya Ircha kodem! There are so many people in CH lacking basic things, now especially for Yom Tov I think a little local help would be very appreciated.
A Gut Gebentched Yahr to Everyone!
But tishrei in the schunah needs some help as well
Gd bless Tzvi
Reply to #4 Giving food for Jews while abroad without proper accommodation is considered charity and is urgent just as donating money for Yeshiva’s. I got to Uman last year starving, the TSA took away my Tuna cans that I by mistake kept in my carry on. I will never forget the hot soup, delicious chicken, rice, vegetables and fruit salad upon my arrival while enjoying a great discussion with an irreligious Israeli Yemenite hippie with long dreadlocks coming straight from India, Hasidic Satmer guy from England with his teenage child, Yeshivish guy from Lakewood and a elder guy from… Read more »
T.B, & L.S. for all the CHESED and Tzedakah you do all year. May Hashem continue to bless you so you can help others.
is beautiful to see!! May we be Zocheh to Vihikitzu Viraninu Sochnei Afar with the Rebbeh Biroshenu!!!! Even Before this Rosh Hashana!!!!!!!
I once sat down with a Breslov Chassid who tried to convince me to go to Uman. I asked him what is his take on all these people going to Uman who are clearly not Breslover Chassidim. He called them “spiritual tourist”! They are looking for something to bring them back to a spiritual level they once knew or never knew. Kol Hakavod to tzvi if this brings him closer to some spiritual level.
feeding the poor and giving to the poor is the primary inyan of tzedaka. after reading all the comments on the last article about the schools charging too much for tuition – who wants to give to those schools?? the recipients complain; and if all the complainers are right that the schools are corrupt – then there is yet another reason not to give to them. but it seems the main reason is that the recipients express a lack of gratitude for what they have. giving food for yom tov seems even d’oraisa. the chag should be good …
There is another group of askanim Teddy Lichtenstein and Lazer Scheiner that sponsors Heichal Hachnasas Archim in Uman. Scheiner says he just paid to built a big new kitchen and they are also feeding 15,000 people.
between Tzvi Bogomilsky’s new kitchen sponsoring feeding 15,000 people and Heichal Hachnasas Archim there must be well over 30,000 plus people going to Uman.
Keep up your great work on behalf of klall Yisroel , we are proud of you !!
May Hashem repay you with everything you deserve
Wow what a bal tzedakah!!
He deserves all due to him.
A breslover?
Alongside every amazing man stands…his older brother! We love you both (and reading good things about you in the news) – enjoy Uman.
May all your tefillos be accepted, granted and fulfilled with revealed good.
