A group of bochurim are fed up with how Crown Heightsers relate to the topic of Moshiach and are doing something about it.

When you hear the word Moshiach, what comes to mind?
A group of bochurim, students of shiur daled of Beis Medrash Oholei Torah Zal in Crown Heights, wants your answer to be something along the lines of redemption, world peace, prosperity and wisdom.
"The topic of Moshiach in Crown Heights is slowly fading away," one of the bochurim told COLlive, citing "a 20-year-old argument" about the identity of the ultimate redeemer which has divided the community since the early 90's.
"Some are just getting tied up with side disagreements," the bochur added, saying that the result was people forgetting that the sole purpose was doing Mitzvos to hasten the coming of Moshiach.
A recent speaker at their monthly Moshiach class, organized for local men in the Getzel's Shul on Kingston Avenue and President Street, emphasized that point.
Rabbi Chaim Schochet, a sought-after speaker, mentioned how Jews have been waiting for Moshiach for generations now and just as we get closer "we are forgetting about it?!"
To tackle that notion, the bochurim are publishing a regular newsletter titled "Moshiach Weekly" which is distributed by email to subscribers around the world (to sign up, email: themoshiachweekly@gmail.com).
The bochurim are planning additional activities to mark Chof Zayin Adar, the day in 1992 when the Rebbe suffered a disabling stroke while davening at the Ohel.
Earlier, during a talk on 3 Shevat 5752 (January 8, 1992), the Rebbe suddenly began to tell of an incident with his father-in-law, the Rebbe Rayatz, and a question his doctor asked about the Rebbe's health.
This talk shocked and concerned the Rebbe's chassidim. Six weeks later, when the Rebbe suffered a stroke, they understood.
"We want to recreate the koch in Moshiach in Crown Heights," the bochurim said.

I am deeply offended by this article. The inference of this article has us believing that shiurim are on the decline in the passed 20 years. This observation is being made by a bochur who is Seventeen! BH CH has shiurim in all major shuls in addition to the many mosdos who cater to the whole community. Private shiurim are found in every block every day of the week. Bochrim have been saving Lubavitch for hundreds of years .. and a new shiur is welcome, but not at the expense of the kovod of hundreds of Yungerlait

You missed the point.No one is saying there isn't enough Shiurim or organizations , rather that the concept of Moshiach has been marred by certain groups of people and those arguing again them.All theBochurim want to do is bring back the true meaning of Moshiach,as explained by the Torah.Moshiach is not about proclaiming someone as a candidate or Davening in certain Shuls ,it's about believing and living the prophecies of Tanach. If we would separate fact and opinion,than we would come to understand what the true Path is with regard to Moshiach. PS You comment itself proves the point.As if Moshiach is all about going to another Shiur...

the arguments of a few individuals back in the 90's should not affect anyone. its a thing of the past and just a waste of time. if you want to do what the rebbe asked us to, live in the now, start a revolution. if you have a good idea, a good approach, go for it, "tut altz vos eer kent". the rebbe said that hopefully there will be one person maybe two that will figure out what to do and how to do, to bring your moshiach now and end this terrible, thick and falsely comfortable golus!

MEKABEL PNAI MOSHIACH - are we doing it?
The Rebbe said the only thing to do is to mekabel pnai Moshiach - as there is "No king without a nation" (Ain Melech blo Am). The Rebbe said learn Moshiach and Geulah. Learn dvar Malchus - learn what the Rebbe said about Moshiach who comes without interruption etc.

Memories
This brings back so many memories, I remember 20 years ago coming home every shabbos from the Farbreingen, everyone would ask "so what did the rebbe say this week about Moshiach" every week the rebbe spoke stronger and stronger about Moshiach. Moshiach was In The air! them there was 27 Adar, and them 3 Tammuz, and now looking back we would have never dreamt of still being in golus, ad mosai!!! It's already 20 years how long must we wait?! I hope that this project succeeds in bringing Moshiach now!!!

The real point
The big news of our time is the Rebbe's announcement that "The time of Redemption has arrived." What for our ancestors was a hope and a prayer, becomes for us -- reality. A part of that is knowing that there is an actual leader as described by the Rambam who is ready to do the job. I am not saying that this should be the only focus, but the Rebbe clearly included that aspect in the message. Relating it to a real person makes it real and newsworthy rather than just an idea. I am not sure that the first thing we say to a person is who Moshiach is. On the other hand, we should be comfortable enough that we don't need to run and hide if someone asks us about it.

I have no issue with ANOTHER shiur about Moshiach. But don't discount CH BB who have daliy/weekly shiurim in Geulah and Moshiach for LONGER then twenty years. Or the schools camps and other moisdos whos whole reason for being is due to their teaching of Moshiach... (not getting into the issue of that was right or wrong..)

Unfortunately Moshiach has become a political issue for many people and become somewhat Taboo .This is because certain people act as if Moshiach is about parading around the Rebbe 24/7,and many of their Shiurim are nothing more than indoctrination into that belief system. A new direction is exactly what is needed . To start ,people should learn about Moshiach from ALL sources in Torah,to understand both the traditional meaning as well as the chassidis one.After this they will understand that the identity of Moshiach Before he comes, is not very important,in fact the Rambam says in Iggeret teman (CH.4),that we wont know who he is before he comes. The point of the article was not to negate everything that has been done till now ,but to add an approach that applies to everyone.COLive is a news site,therefore they stress things that are new and interesting.If the Shiurim where just like the other ones,than it wouldn't be considered news.

Because it says in the Gemara that Moshiach will come with Hesech Hadaas(absence of Knowledge),Which on the basic level means, that right before Moshiach comes people will forget about him, or lose hope in him. The Rebbe spoke about this and said, to correct this we need to achieve a higher form of Knowledge,which is the Chassidick interpretation of Heseck Hadaas.

What the Rebbe says
The Rebbe says very cleary that Moshiach is already here and all we have to do is pen our eyes for us to see Moshiach revrealed...
What the Rebbe is saying is that when we will all live our lives, permeated with the true belief that Moshiach is already here, watching and listening to everything we say and do...., that our belief is solid that Moshiach who is already here may reveal himself at any moment, so then our lives will be elevated and we will living "Yemos HaMoshiach", ... The steak is not as important, taking the family to a good resturaunt is not important, and thinking we can enjoy a good movie or talk some more loshon horah and destroy a few more lives before he comes tomorrow, etc. that all needs to stop So if you and I and everyone else believes and live our lives on this higher and elevated plane, then all that is truly missing is for Moshiach to reveal himself, because we have already accepted him in our day to day lives, etc Otherwise, we can add as many new classes and publications as we want, the more the merrier (it's all good), and we can jump on benches in 770 and strain our eyes with the hope to "see", but it is all to no avail, as our other actions are just pushing Him away further. Don't get me wrong, its vitally important to talk about Moshiach and keep it on the front burner..., but we all need to start "living Moshiach" and only then can we hope it will actually happen today. Amen. As the saying goes, "Ä fool only fools himself" so whom are we kidding?

What the rebbe says??
The Rebbe also said that moshiach isn't here(Sefer Hasichos 5772 page 406). When the rebbe said Moshiach is here ,he is refering to a prophecy in shir hashirim (2/8) that AFTER Moshiach comes they will say he is here. It is exactly for this reason we need new Shiurim, so that people will stop distorting the rebbe's words.

When we were shluchim in YOEC in LA a yr pr 2 after 3 tamuz, My rosh yeshiva, the rosh complained that ppl were not fightin gwith him to say yechi any more. 'THEY (the ones who were fighting with him) CARED about Moshiach.
while the Rebbe's point about moshiach is much more than who Moshiach is, the Rebbe did say THE IKAR CHIDUSH of moshiach is HISGALUS of his existence.
it is wonderful that those who were turned off by the misbehavior of some ppl who claimed to speak about moshiach are finding new shiurim about Moshiach but let us remember that the main excitement about yechi happened as a direct result of the rebbe's talk about it and not of 3 tamuz.
there may be disagreements of how to apply it now and it is wondefulr that even if you disagree with those who want to identify Moshiach, you should definitely "koch" in Moshiach but lets not rewind and pretend that the "identify" Moshiach campaign just came from some tzfatim.
having lived through that special year of sichos, it was definitely hited strongly in the Rebbe sichos if not more than that.
at the same time it is obvious that the Rebbe wanted the main focus of the moshiach campaign to be about the general subject of Moshiach and not about his identity.
so KOL HAKAVOD withou puttin down those who are learning about it steadily for 20 years who I am jealous of.
