Hundreds of supporters, friends and many government dignitaries attended the 72nd Annual Awards Dinner of the National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE).
Held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan's Battery Park, the organization honored Milton and Rita Kramer and family, zoning attorney Sheldon Lobel and NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
NCFJE was founded in 1941 by the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn to teach Torah to public school students through the Jewish Released Time Program.
Today the organization is also known for crisis intervention services and its work with at-risk youth. In recent years, the organization has turned its focus upon the needy families in its home community of Crown Heights as well.
One of the memorable moments of the evening was a short film about the 60th anniversary of Camp Emunah, the veteren summer camp for Lubavitch girls located in New York's Catskills.
Many old photos and footage documented the camp's founding and growth from the 1950s to today.
Afterwards, a special award was presented to Rebbetzin Chave Hecht who was introduced as "the longest-standing camp director in the world."
She was joined by three generations of Emunah campers, Mrs. Shoshanna Minkowitz, Mrs. Kenni Feigenson and Malky Feigenson.
