go reuven centner

Actual reason for nittel.
December 29, 2011 9:50 am

Before electricity every street was dark, except for the candlelight of yidden learning thru the night. (That in itself made the illiterate goyim angry.) On nittel there was excessive shikruss, a focus on yoshkeleh, so it was dangerous to sit by the candle and learn.

In Ger they go to sleep early and rise at chatzos, when the klippos have dispersed. Not much joy in that.

I saw this from the Frierdiker Rebbe that says this (though maybe also the Tzemach Tzedek) and it says it the way 53 says etc…

What the Tzemach Tzedek says is, that if you dont keep a Minhag then you get the opposite of minhag (which in hebrew will read….) or something like that, but not that by keeping a minhag do you go to… Chas Vesholom.

All of you should stop focusing on what you think everyone is doing wrong and instead look at yourselves. Because the fault you see in someonelse is really in you!

Questions about Nittel
December 25, 2011 4:48 pm

Any Questions about Nittel Nacht could be found in a booklet made by Rabbi M. Blau (there were lots of them in 770), it covers everything about Nittel, (including who’s minhag etc…).

The Bobover Rebbe On Nittel Nacht
December 25, 2011 4:40 pm

The Kedushas Tziyon of Bobov hy”d zy”a explaining the minhag to not learn on Nittel Nacht, it’s very interesting: Read more »

Are you sure the Vilna Goan did not learn on Nittel! I think he did, it is a minhag that other people have but not that many it is something that has been told to us by OUR rabbeim

amazing!!
December 25, 2011 3:55 pm

I never knew there were so many good chess players in lubavitch! yeah!! They were amazing!

in 770
December 25, 2011 11:52 am

in 770 bc they always want to be near the rebbe even while playing chess

is it a inyan to davke play chess IN 770?
December 25, 2011 11:25 am

why chess

I was there.
December 25, 2011 11:04 am

Wow, it was really amazing how these peaple played so fast, and I was so impressed of the young bochur mayzlesh (brother of mendel) how he would just resign the game because he saw in like 20 moves it would be over, and then no one would know who won and he would tell us. (though shushan played sometimes till he was checkmated).

Go Chaim Mayzlesh!

Don’t just complain.

Chess Clock
December 25, 2011 9:03 am

has to be to the right of player who plays black.

it is not a lubavitch minhag only!
December 25, 2011 8:56 am

you should be more accurate in your repotring and say that it is a jewish minhag
There are many, many rabonim throughout history who stopped learning and played chess durring the nittle nacht for the same reasons we do and they were not e en chasidim such as the vilna gaon
Once again we see how the missinformed make claims as if chabad invented most of jewdaism

So funny!
December 25, 2011 8:51 am

Look at all of them! they are playing with such concentration!! i dont think they have such concentration for learning!

Im glad they are taking it seriously!

The Difference
December 25, 2011 6:24 am

Have you noticed when playing chess, people are opposite each other, AGAINST each other. When learning Torah they are Next to each other. Anyone care to enlighten us with regards to this, on the difference b/w Kedushas and Klipah. (After nitel !)

Another Q
December 25, 2011 6:00 am

Can you play checkers?
Does it have to be in 770?
