Zalman Brass, a fixture in Crown Heights for many years known as R’ “Zalman the Shikker” passed away on the second day of Shavuos.
Zalman was born in Brooklyn and lived in Newark, NJ, for a while after his marriage.
Years ago he began spending time in Crown Heights, and lived by the Jacobsons on Lefferts Avenue.
“He was a very intelligent person, always asking questions with a twinkle in his eye,” Mrs. Feige Jacobson told COLlive.
For the past few months he had been in and out of the hospital as his health was deteriorating. On the second day of Shavuos he suffered cardiac arrest at Methodist Hospital and died soon after.
He is survived by two sons.
