You’ll Speak Yiddish to Your Kids

Mrs. Sarah Shemtov didn't have children for many years, but always knew that she would because of a remark by Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson. Full Story

I grew up with Sarah. She spoke very little of her experiences with the rebbetzin so as not to make the rest of us “jealous”
Beautiful heartwarming story
May she have lots of nachas.

Sarah! What a tremendous z'chus you had!

Thank you for sharing your story. We’ve known each other since we were young, but I never knew this part. May you continue to have loads of yiddisher and chassidisher nachas from your beautiful children.

I know this was not the main point being made here, but I feel like we have lost this “battle”. Since the Bal Shem Tov Chassidim have always spoken Yiuddish. Why is it that Lubavitchers, the bchirim of all the Chassidim are the weakest when it comes to this? We need to be PROUDER Chassidim and speak Yiddish! Its not the ONLY thing we should do, but certainly we would speak more refined and thereby live more refined if we spoke in Yiddish.

Sarah, i;ve known you for over 30yrs and each time i hear your story it brings chills up and down my spine –

both the Rebbe & Rebbetzin truly cared for you, your sis and your family, keep building on that and on your strong foundationg of a home and keep it filled with Torah and mitzvohs

Thank you

Unfortunately Yiddish is getting lost in our community. The schools are no longer demanding it, Chumish is being translated into English even for those who are capable of speaking Yiddish. As a result we are losing a lot of our heimishe ways. Many we soon merit to hear sichos in Yiddish again!

I agree with all the comments about Yiddish, this is the language the Rebbe spoke to us, we should promote it as much as possible. I have quite a few of the earlier volumes of LIkutei Sichos and a few years ago saw an advertisment for a DVD with all the works of all the Rebbeim for a very reasonable price, I thought that would be a great way to fill in the rest of the Rebbe’s sichos, not to mention everything else included. Lo and behold, the Sichos on the DVD start with volume 30 and are all in… Read more »

Rabbi Levi and Sorah Shemtov are phenomenal shluchim and have beautiful children BH. I heard this story from Sorah many years ago when I worked for them, and I constantly tell it over because it has made such an impression on me.
Thank you Sorah for sharing this! May you have continued nachas from your children and your shlichus.
