Yosef Chaim Udelson, a history professor and lecturer on Jewish topics who lived in Monsey, NY, passed away on Monday, 17 Shvat, 5777.
He was 73.
Yosef Chaim was born in Chicago, IL, and got his PhD in history from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
He later became a tenured professor at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN and published books on the history of television and the life of Israel Zangwill.
While in Nashville, Yosef Chaim became frum and close to Chabad and the Rebbe through Rabbi Zalman Posner.
After becoming frum he continued to be a professor while also writing and lecturing on Jewish and Chassidic topics, in England and Israel. His Jewish articles were published in Beor Hatorah and other publications.
After retiring from TSU he lived for a while in Tzfas and later in Buffalo.
He is survived by his wife Dr. Shoshana Udelson, daughters Dinka Kumer – Tzfas, Israel, Chanie Goodfriend – Monsey, NY, Devorah Drew – Monsey, NY and over 20 grandchildren
The levaya will take place today, Monday, at 3:30 PM at the cemetery on Brick Church Rd. in Monsey, NY.
Shoshana Udelson, Chani Goodfriend, and Devorah Drew will be sitting shiva at 10 Ashlawn Ave, Spring Valley.
Shiva will end Sunday morning. People are requested not to come before 10 AM, between 4-7PM and not after 9.

I see that you have twenty grandchildren, compared to my much loved three. I remember your two lovely daughters I met years ago when they were very young. How time has flown. Professor Udelson was an unassuming and a very bright man. He raised a beautiful and exceptional family. His children themselves are exceptionally gifted Jewish educators and devoted to the REBBE with their children going in the ways of Torah and Chassidus.
