On November 2 there will be city-wide elections for important offices. These include the mayor and city council whose decisions have a direct impact on public safety, policing, education, city taxes, sanitation, transportation, bike lanes, and many more areas that affect your day-to-day life.
Currently, there are many contenders who wish to run as the candidate for mayor on the Democratic Party line. To decide who will be the one to do so, a primary election will be held on June 22. Since the winner will almost certainly win the November general election given the current political reality of our city, whoever wishes to take part in selecting our next mayor must make sure to participate in this primary.
But in order to do so, you must be registered as a Democrat. This doesn’t mean you agree with their positions, and it doesn’t “contaminate” you. It just means you’re a realist who recognizes that the vast majority of New York voters are Democrats. As such, there’s only one way to participate in electing politicians here, and that is to vote for the most moderate candidate their party has to offer.
Being practical and down-to-earth requires you to make decisions that accomplish the most good, as opposed to those that just engender good feelings. So if registering with a party you don’t like is the only way to elect the mayor in your city, that is what you must do. Obviously, in the November general election, you will still be able to vote for whichever party you wish. Here are more details on the primary process and why it’s so important, and here are examples of how our votes actually matter.
While you still have a few months to familiarize yourself with the candidates and do your research before the vote, you must register now, as the deadline is February 14. The process is very simple and can be done here. And those who are registered with a different party can change their party affiliation as well.
Remember, whatever complaints you may have against De Blasio, his replacement can be a lot worse. What will YOU do to prevent that?

I hate to say it, but this guy is right. This is the only way to have an impact in NY for the foreseeable future. I will most likely vote for the republican in general election anyway…
There is a place to click on in above article to register or to switch your registration – please take a minute & do this BEFORE SHABBOS !
Remember that Votes = Political Power
For looking out for our community. It’s worth repeating that the vote for the Democratic mayor is essentially the vote for mayor so you need to be a registered Democrat to vote for the mayor.
Now please don’t let this comment section be hijacked by trolls who hate us.
Moshiach Now!!!
At least he’ll be arrested for there will be enough proof like Cuomo. De blasio is doing “quietly” but loudly. Worse will only mean loudly and so loud to throw him out. Please throw de blasio out – anyone to replace de blasio is better then de blasio.
Every democrat is gonna say democratic policy’s, like blm, because they want to win!
So do not let that discourage you from voting, Not every candidate believes it,but in ny they need to say it to get elected.. so it is up to you to do your research and figure out who is the best candidate.
I’ve heard Katherine Garcia speak a couple of years ago, and she is both centrist and exceptional.
Do not trust ch politicians!
Do your own research and choose.
Not for sure who they advertise is the best candidate.
Go Efraim!!
Orthodox Jews should believe in black lives matter, orthodox Jews should believe in universal healthcare, orthodox Jews should believe in a two state solution, orthodox Jews should believe in equality and freedom for all, orthodox Jews should support a woman’s right to her own body, orthodox Jews should support marriage equality.
We should, yet contradictory to our own values, we don’t.
What is wrong with this community? We have strayed so far from Gd.
Yes, we believe that black lives matter. Meaning that the several thousand black lives taken by other blacks every year are a lot more significant than the few that are taken by police. So it follows that those who believe in “defunding the police” actually want fewer black lives. Yes, we believe in universal healthcare. So politicians who play around with that, claiming that “if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” and in fact enact policies that don’t allow you to “keep your doctor,” should be condemned. Yes, we believe in a “two state solution.” The states… Read more »
Orthodox jews have free choice and are independent minded. A person can believe that black lives matter without believing in an organization that represents hatred of news hatred of israel and hatred of america. A two state solution is not a solution when the Palestinian goal is destruction of jews not acquisition of territory. A chabad New knows clearly that the rebbe was 100 percent against giving away an iota of land. Equality and freedom for all doesn’t mean what it used to mean. Equality didn’t mean giving more opportunities to a specific group of people, that is racism. Torah… Read more »
Do you go to the websites of Islamic extremists and preach tolerance of Jews? Do you got to BLM sites and preach about antisemitism? Do you got to websites of the extreme left and castigate them for their antisemitism?
Let me know when “Orthodox” “Jews” should believe in atheism, Buddhism and Hindu dance. We’ll be happy to hear from you. What else should we believe in? Btw, I’ve always felt that the obsession with Trump was way over the top, but you and yours take the cake, hands down.
Don’t waste your vote on any of the De Blasio clones/clowns lining up to replace him. This year, a true American hero is running, Curtis Sliwa. He’s the bona fide heir to 90s-era Giuliani, when Rudy saved the city. Many Democrats will cross party lines this year to vote for Curtis, just as they did for Rudy and Bloomberg.
I would hope that your last line comes true. Nevertheless, if we don’t want to possibly end up with one of “the De Blasio clones/clowns,” then we need to vote for the least worst one to get the Democratic nomination.
It is also important to vote for Curtis Sliwa. He is facing two other contenders.
New York has had Republican Mayor’s and Governors, for example Rudy Giuliani etc. It’s certainly possible for a republican to win. I personally do not believe in the Democrat party anymore as they are too corrupt. Nicole Maliotakis may have failed to become Mayer, but she has successfully become a Republican congresswoman for NY. I will not rush to the Democrat party as I don’t believe that Democrats have our interests in mind. I will vote in the republican primary and for a conservative or republican for Mayor. If people vote based on who they assume will have the majority… Read more »
True that the Democrats don’t have our interests in mind. But shouldn’t that be all the more reason to be able to vote in their primary, to get the least worst of them nominated? After all, if you don’t, then what might happen is that the worst of them gets nominated – and then elected.
In order to get someone who has you best interest, there needs to be a two party system. Meaning, you need to vote in the primary of the party you are more likely to back. Which is not the Democrats, as they are anti-semitic socialists.
Being that Feb 14 is Sunday, you must change your party affiliation before shabbos, because if changed on the weekend, it won’t register in the system until monday, and by then it’s too late. As per the ny gov website
Yaakov Behrman should run, he does a lot for the community,
Part of the reason I am a registered Republican, is due to posts like this. Blind voting for the Democratic Party, is how NY was destroyed.
The reason we have crazy politicians is because of people like you who have no idea what’s going on. He’s saying to vote for the MODERATE candidates. Not “blind voting”!
It’s saying vote for the LEAST crazy of the Democrats, since most NY voters are Democrats anyway so there’s no chance of a Republican winning as much as we want one to.
