A Hearty Yosher Koach

A Yosher Koach to Rabbi Wilhelm for his courage in submitting this video.
The school administrators can choose to ignore clear Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch but at least this 10min video vindicates the parents that truly don’t have any money but were nonthless threatned, hounded, abused and harassed by the school administrators in the lead up to school starting.

In a booklet Advice for Life on education, the Rebbe quotes :
jewish school should never refuse a child even for a single day because the parents cannot afford to pay

In connection with this article breaking the silence about the silent killer of “Tuition = Natural Birth Control”, in Chabad….(and the rest of the Jewish world) Here is what’s missing from the article in my opinion: You need to show the total it takes it tuition for one kid From Kindergarten till after seminary or smicha….” (Forget Camps…) Figures shown here are on the lower side ….. (Average costs worldwide (not Israel)) Ages: 3 to 5 @ 4000.00 per year =8000.00 5 to 12 @ 8000.00 =56000.00 12 to 18 @ 12000.00 =72000.00 2 years seminary (plus travel and pocket… Read more »

You are out of touch with reality if you think you can find a teacher for $30k. That is a joke. Thats the salary for flipping burgers at a fastfood place.

Good video

I appreciate the overview of the halachos but it does not answer the question in the headline of the article — How far do parents need to stretch to cover their kids’ tuition?

Read the new book “Samarkand.” In Russia, Mendel Futerfas insisted that yeshiva PAY certain bochurim to site and learn. They came from poor families and their parents might force them to work if there was not enough money in the household…

Compare with today’s “pay or leave” attitude.

love this series-make more on this topic!

So just how much is s’char limud? Is it the average price the yeshiva actually gets (say $5,000)? this list price (say $15,000)? or the teacher’s salary (maybe $30,000) divided by the total number of kids in a class (say 30) for a total of $1,000?

Very little practical advice in this. That isn’t a criticism if you take it for what it is – a review of hilchos talmud torah from the Alter Rebbe. But it just isn’t practical advice. On a practical level our community, and by extension Chabad (at least in America) is dying due to the school issue. Sure, like Blackberry, it still looks healthy, but that is just a failure to project into the future. With the new public school in Crown Heights it is starting to trickle. It will soon flood. Is there someone who is above their little politics… Read more »

Thank you so much, Rabbi Wilhelm. This so needs to be publicised all over the frum communities. Also, how about talking about whether the school is allowed to firlst pay all the administration first and then leave teachers unpaid!
