The White House Chanukah Party, the annual reception held at the White House to mark the Chanukah holiday, has been postponed by one day, the White House notified.
The event, which was scheduled for this Wednesday, the fourth night of Chanukah, has been postponed to Thursday, due the funeral and day of mourning to be held on Wednesday for President George H. W. Bush, who passed away on Saturday.
The annual celebration, hosted by the U.S. President and First Lady to recognize and celebrate the Jewish festival of Chanukah, was established in 2001, during the administration of George W. Bush.
Guests include hundreds of heads of American Jewish organizations, Jewish members of the administration and Congress, and other prominent American Jews. COLlive Publisher and Editor Mica Soffer will be attending with her husband Yossi Soffer.
Expected to lead the celebration will be President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, senior White House advisors Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner and the president’s Jewish grandchildren.
As in previous years, the evening will include a glatt kosher meal under the strict rabbinical supervision of Rabbi Levi Shemtov of the Lubavitch Center of Washington DC (Chabad) in cooperation with the Rabbinical Council of Greater Washington.
The reception has become one of a number of ways the president recognizes the holiday, along with a proclamation/message, and participation by the president or a member of his staff in the lighting of the National Menorah on the National Mall.
