The 2016 Republican National Convention will kick off on Monday, July 18 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. It will conclude on Thursday, July 21.
The convention will host approximately 2,470 delegates from the Republican National Committee (RNC) and 2,302 alternate delegates from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 5 territories.
Approximately 15,000 credentialed media—an international press corps second only in size to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games—are expected to cover the convention and presidential and vice presidential candidates Donald Trump and Mike Pence.
This is in addition to a global audience that will enjoy a front row seat online thanks to to the website Convention.gop.
2016 will mark the fourth time the Republican Party will convene its convention in Ohio. The Buckeye State also played host to the 1876, 1924 and 1936 Republican National Conventions in Cincinnati (’76) and Cleveland (’24 and ’36).
As reported, Chabad of Downtown Cleveland is opening a pop-up space for prayers, services and kosher food during the convention at 55 Public Square.
Rabbi Yossi Freedman, who is overseeing the project with his wife, Chaya, emphasized the Chabad is “apolitical” and is there to serve all Jewish people who take part in the convention regardless of their political affiliation.
Here’s a partial list of the headline speakers at the convention.
MONDAY: “Make America Safe Again”
Headliners: Trump’s wife, Melania; Lt. Gen. (ret.) Michael Flynn, U.S. Army; Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa; and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
TUESDAY: “Make America Work Again”
Headliners: Former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey; Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.; House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis.; House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.; former GOP presidential candidates Dr. Ben Carson and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
WEDNESDAY: “Make America First Again”
Headliners: Former presidential candidates Ted Cruz,Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; and vice presidential candidate Mike Pence.
THURSDAY: “Make America One Again”
Headliners: Peter Thiel, co-founder PayPal; Tom Barrack, CEO of Colony Capital; RNC Chairman Reince Priebus; Ivanka Trump, daughter of the candidate; and Donald Trump, GOP nominee for president.
Rabbi Ari Wolf, police chaplain in Cleveland, Ohio, will be delivering an invocation.
The 2016 Democratic Convention will be held the following week at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on July 25th-28th, 2016.
