Read one family’s detailed account of how Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights saved them during a medical crisis:
Dear Bikur Cholim,
We are writing to express our sincere appreciation for everything the Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights has done for our family. An incredible organization in our community whose work often goes unnoticed.
Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that one day we would be part of the receiving end of the Bikur Cholim. We enjoyed helping out with cooking dinners, Shabbos meals and treats (just to show we care) and visiting or helping out the families when in need. We never asked for details and had no idea how much this wonderful organization does!
A few years back after a traumatic birth of our son, the recovery was very hard. Quietly, an offer was extended. Please rest, we will help you while you recover. We were in awe! A companion was paid to help watch the baby, and extra cleaning help was sent. We were extremely grateful for the help and thought that we would never have to use Bikur Cholim’s help again.
Not too long ago, my husband had a life threatening condition that required emergency surgery. While recovery was supposed to take up to three months, it took longer! I called up one of the board members to find out where the bikur cholim room in the hospital was, and suddenly we are part of the Bikur Cholim of Crown Heights family!
An offer to watch the children at home was given on the spot! I turned to another board member for help navigating and understanding the medical language. Calls and texts were flying back and forth, ensuring that we had the best possible care and that things were being taken care of. Our cleaning lady was told to come for extra hours, so that at least the children had a clean house. Suppers were provided. The morning of the surgery, a dedicated volunteer was waiting outside my house at 4:30 in the morning! We care for you and we are here to help with love, the Bikur Cholim.
Financially, we were not doing well. We work paycheck to paycheck in the best of times; this threw us for a loop. Assistance was given in meeting our co-pays. Chanuka presents and gelt for the children, on Yomtov money was allocated for the children to have a special trip and financial aid for yomtov. The children feel so special when a birthday gift comes for them from the Bikur Cholim.
Unfortunately, a couple months later, another medical situation arose and surgery was the only option. Again, our Bikur Cholim shown through! Rides to and from the doctors’ offices, ensuring the children were in camp, sending cleaning help and meals- every detail was arranged.
We feel that we are part of a wonderful Bikur Cholim family and wish that Hashem should grant that we only have to be on the giving end and no more on the receiving end! Once again, thanks to this wonderful organization for being there for us, emotionally, physically and monetarily! May we be zoche to the geula shleima and we won’t need the Bikur Cholim anymore!

when I asked them why the Shabbos meal they delivered are so elaborate, why not just send a basic Shabbos ? she said there is no simple Shabbos, our volunteers want every Shabbos to be special!!! and they certainly do. thank you
Yes, I also experienced the extreme sensitivity and help from Bikur Cholim. They were very organized, reliable and did it all in a natural, happy way – a life saver!!
