“Marry Me,” an upcoming show in honor of Tu B’av, has provoked an uproar of mixed emotions and responses across the community, some in favor and some against tonight’s broadcast.
In the proverbial nutshell, here’s what’s being said:
“From promo it looks like we have crossed the line having a girl and boys doing a show together!!!!”
“We are so close minded it’s sad, as if a boy and girl acting a comedy show together is from our problems when our kids have access to much worse things.”
“The promos (the worse one aren’t shown here) are completely not what chabad should be allowing. Anyone who craves inappropriate content can find plenty of it elsewhere but why does this have to be brought here and bring others down?”
This controversial reaction was not wholly unanticipated by both
“Marry Me” showrunners, Yankee Teitelbaum and Bracha Torenheim.
“We created this show as a way to explore globally pervasive issues in orthodox communities,” shared Bracha. “So often these issues are brought to outside news sites and platforms, instead of having a open forum within the community to explore these topics, find solutions, and, even more importantly, to do it with an upbeat attitude and hope.”
The addition of Flatbush Girl, a woman featured alongside her male comedian counterparts, was integral to the show’s development. These topics, especially Jewish dating and marriage, reflect a systemic issue affecting all genders. As Yankee explains, “To create a show about shidduchim without the female voice, especially a married woman like Flatbush Girl, would have alienated the Jewish woman’s experience in finding a shidduch and building a true bayis ne’eman b’yisroel; thereby eliminating the possibility of addressing the issue in its entirety.”
The cast will be joined by Rabbi Yossi Jacobson, the cast of Soon By You, as well as shadchanim, couples and singles of different communities to discuss the current shidduch crisis.
The show, the first of a series, is sponsored by COLlive.com, as well as Shuly Wigs, Tsfasman Jewelers, Chaim Perl Photography and Esty Prus Bridal Makeup, who will all be sponsoring a grand total of $6K worth of prizes.
Tune in tonight at 7:30PM on collive.com and Shmuze.live.
Mendey Pelion you are just superly awesome! Really did enjoy lookin forward for more.
Til when does the raffle go and how do I get to know if I win
I really liked the show, it is so important to create series like this so some people have somenthing other to see than netflix or youtube videos with non jewish content. its just great to see this conversations on jewish topics with lots of humor!!! the only thing I would change· fltbush girl call wearing a sheitel a tradicion, if we look to the rebbes talks on wearing a sheitel we understand there is so much more, all the brochas a family can get and the importance of it, girls should know the real meaning and importance on covering the… Read more »
The show was great, had very good advice from Rabbi YY. The shadchanit spoke well and introduced the process of the initial
Interview clearly with great insights and ideas on what is the focus of the interview. And Mendy said it all in his advice to just relax and know that it is a process we all go thru and are successful at the end of it, just have Betachon that it will all workout.
Loved your show so so much,
No matter what people say to you, do not ever stop, keep opening the closed doors of Shidduchim and invite more shadchanim, especially people like Rifka Tornheim/Kulik, she is not only the best shadchan, she understands what people go through by speaking to shadchanim who label them.
loved it, only part that was questionable was M. Kay wearing womans sheitels. I’d say that is a prohibition of ‘Lo tilbash womans things’
also agree that interviews of woman should be done by woman and viceversa
otherwise really enjoyed and waiting to see next one
There is no controversy, it’s just not Chabad standards.
Those who created it or are ok with it are just not following Chabad standards. No need to hide behind the word “controversial”.
It would be nice if this could’ve been done within the guidelines of Tznius, without any grey areas.
Also some jokes were suggestive, and not appropriate.
We are hovering over the line of tznius here. But certainly crossing he line of chassidishkeit.
As can be seen by all, this took enormous effort and coordination. Kudos to the producers for executing and for their ambitious vision. Comment from today to tomorrow. They got it done. As anyone can see, Mendy Pellin is a legit talent. This may sound provincial, but here goes anyway. Mendy Pellin can be on a sitcom. He has the chops. As also can be seen by all, this show isnt tznius. Single and married men should never be interviewing single or married women. Its as simple as that. This would gets a NT rating. Im sorry that so much… Read more »
The show was informative and entertaining. I wish the sponsors and presenters lots of hatzlacha Each segment could have been a show unto itself. It would be good to know in advance how long the show is scheduled to run.

Нет нет некого кроме бога однаго
Great productions it reminds me of the kichels last page in mishpacha black humour but so true I await the next episode in the meantime hashem should. Bless all. Who need a, shidduch children and parnossa in abundunce
You can appreciate this more if you are more into the world – and the manner and demeanour of people in the movies – i.e. somewhat phoney interactions. If you are more temimus and on a daily basis, venture less into that world out. movies and media etc. – you may instinctively cringe to see the acting between boy and girl – all with the best intentions! But it is not tznius, no matter how you twist it. So the point may be – IS THE MEANS WORTH THE MESSAGE? is the display of subtle worldliness in the production itself… Read more »
Amazing job guys, thank you for bringing much needed comic relief to our world.
Great comedy, music and interviews.
Was laughing out loud most of the show! Well done! Would loved to have seen more of Menachem though.
Please, how can I get in touch with Sarede Switzer?
P.S. not shiduchim related
WRONG – I have no idea if any husbands actually wash their wives sheitels, but plenty of woman do !!
We divorced guys aren’t 2nd class material
BS”D What did Mr Kay washing a shatel have to do with reality, no man will ever do it as no women will ever either
Probably not. Nothing is as it is potrayed. It’s called entertainment
but i am just so weirded out by this production.
Are women actually like what is portrayed in this video?
A 20 yr old bochur who needs to be learning.
The show looks like it had a lot of thought, time, and effort put into it. It covered a lot of ground (as in people and topics.) I feel it would have been more beneficial to cover less ground and go more in depth. Also this show is addressing a sensitive topic for everyone (we are all always seeking to be in a relationship or to enhance our relationship etc.) and I was enjoying the way the guests on the show were sharing their experiences, their beliefs, thoughts and emotions in an open authentic way. It did not seem appropriate… Read more »
I tried typing in my number and it didn’t work please fix it
actually really enjoyed the show! didnt know what to expect/how it would turn out….but i loved it!
Is this a result of Chassidus Chabad?
This is way beyond the proper boundaries of tznius. Unacceptable.
This entire production is screaming with eidelkeit and is completely appropriate from all angles! Something the Lubavitch community at large can be proud of.
Hilarious!
is this appropriate?
this is not a negative comment just in truth I want 2 know if I should be watching it
To whom is the show geared for?
Thank you for posting
