Police have released surveillance images of five boys wanted for helping an 11-year-old set fire to a school bus used by a Brooklyn Yeshiva, officials said Tuesday.
The pre-teen fire bugs — who range between 10 and 15-years-old — loaded up the open school bus on Brooklyn Ave. near Lefferts Ave. in Crown Heights with cardboard and set the boxes on fire about 6 p.m. Sunday, police said.
Flames quickly engulfed the vehicle’s cabin and engine and thick black smoke filled the yellow bus.
After the fire was put out, scorched prayer books, a cell phone and a camera laid amongst the broken glass, seat cushion stuffing and other charred detritus.
While the bus did not have any markings to indicate that it was used to transport Orthodox students, it was parked in front of Beth Rivkah, an Orthodox girls school.
An 11-year-old boy was quickly caught and charged with criminal mischief as a hate crime and arson as a hate crime.
Cops are asking the public’s help identifying and finding the other four kids.
Anyone with information is asked to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
I am a life long NYC resident. I grew up during the riots of the 1960s. Not much has changed. It is staggering the rate at which this is spreading to other states as well. The NYPD hopefully is preparing for the events that will take place this summer. Due to also being a military family Delaware has become my second home since 2008. Before you criticize the NYPD come and visit Milford Delaware. In the right years that I have lived in Delaware part time it is unbelievable the decline and corruption I have witnessed within the Department of… Read more »
these kids litterly have no common sense what so ever, shouldn’t public schools/parents teach them that this is not okay and they cannot act this way. These crazy thugs will keep acting this way if its not put to an end!!!people have to know the difference between right and wrong
you stop. nypd is doing squat-didly-sh– they busy eating donuts. look how long it took them to get the meshigener who stabbed someone. this will take even longer. video is clear. i do not care if they are 11 or 21 years old. arrest and prosecute.
just babbling – nypd is doing what they need to.
Shame on you for posting dumb comments … you have no clue what police work is all about nor can you get what legalities with an 11 yr old is versus what can be used or taken from the kid legally…you can blame a host of other issues first most likely.
Look at the original longer video. There were seven animals involved. All should be charged and made to pay for the damage they caused.
PLEASE BUY CAMERAS THAT WORK.
you have head shots that are a blur. No excuse for that. Pay up and get some resolution.
There has to be some school principal from one of the schools in this area, that can identify these low lifes. The police has to harass them for names or just stake out the schools.
Shame on the police! Are they so lame, they can’t get information out of an eleven scared out of his wits year old?
In a police station surrounded by the hood?!?
Give me a break!

I hope that one of the kids that cause this was injured. Tough luck on them. No one asked them to set the bus on fire. This is what happens when u set a bus on fire. You get hurt
you really are wondering if the people who torched a school bus got injured?
#4 no nobody was injured
Was someone injured???
The police can get all that info from the kid that was caught!!!!
You want to tell me that detectives can’t get info from there 11 year old they caught???
You can call them ‘youths’ if you want but teenagers of that age are not punished like children – who often get placed under their parents custody, what a joke. So please don’t make it sound like they are children.
