A large celebration is being planned for the last night of Chanukah, but it won’t be only the victory of the Maccabees against the Syrian-Greeks in ancient Israel that will be feted.
The occasion will also be marking the one-year anniversary of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, the former kosher meat executive from Iowa, being commuted by U.S. President Donald Trump from a harsh 28-year sentence.
The event will take place on Sunday, Zos Chanuka at The Ulam Hagadol, located at 4217 New Utrecht Avenue in Brooklyn, with a simultaneous event for women at Gan Yisroel, located at 13 Church Avenue in Brooklyn.
Thousands are expected to join in an evening of joy and inspiration, the family said, and noted that the event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:30 pm and the program begins at 8:30 pm.
The event will feature a digital presentation and music by Avraham Fried, Avremi G. and the Shira Choir. The highlight of the evening will be divrei chizuk from Sholom Mordechai, culminating with dancing.
“This miracle wasn’t just a personal yeshuah. It was a reminder to Klal Yisroel about the power of emunah and bitachon,” Rubashkin’s son Getzel Rubashkin, says.
“Ever since his release, gedolim and Jewish leaders around the world have been encouraging my father to dedicate himself to spreading the message of emunah and bitachon, and that is what he has done,” Getzel says. “‘Alef, Bais, Gimmel’ has become a household phrase. This event is a moment to loudly and clearly thank Hashem and reaffirm that we got the message – emunah and bitachon will bring geulah.”
News of Rubashkin being commuted by President Trump last year has been called a modern-day Chanukah miracle after repeated appeals had been turned down.
It was a simcha felt by all of Klal Yisroel.

Just watched the simulcast.
There had to be at least 2000 people.
Rubashkin told some interesting stories and took the time to shake everyone’s hand, hug people, and talk to everyone who stood in line. Very down to earth.
A real mensch.

Everything that’s happening is Divine. The Trump election brought out hundreds of thousands of reform secular young Jews who are walking around confused. It’s our job as frum yidden to wake them up from their spiritual slumber.
