Mordechai Ben David, Avraham Fried, Lipa Schmeltzer and Uncle Moishy walk into a studio.
This is not a beginning of a joke, but a historical moment in Jewish music as the greatest singers of our time united in Crown Heights to record a promo for the annual Lag B’Omer fair, dubbed this year “The Great Parade.”
Instituted by the Rebbe, the May 2, 2010 street celebration in front of Lubavitch Headquarters 770 Eastern Parkway will unite tens of thousands of Jewish children and adults.
Rabbis Sholom Ber Baumgarten and Shimmy Weinbaum used all their influence to unite these entertainers to perform at the parade.
The promo, directed by Yankee Teitelbaum, was recorded at Chony Milecki Studios and musicians included Shaya Lieberman and Moshe Horenstein.
It is based on the known songs Did You Hear the News (Uncle Moishy), No Jew Will Be Left Behind (Avraham Fried), Someday (MBD) and Gelt (Lipa).
The words were written by Avi Web, Dina Gorkin, Ella Wilhelm, Fitzi Rabin, Leibel Baumgarten and Yossi Rosenblum.
The parade is organized by Tzivos Hashem, NCFJE and Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch.
