A video clip being shared on Monday evening claimed that protestors over the death of George Floyd after being choked by a police officer in Minnesota are headed towards the Jewish section of Crown Heights.
Speaking to COLlive.com, an official with the New York Police Department said that while there was a protest on Bedford Avenue on Monday, they were headed in the opposite direction.
“So far, the protests are not coming towards the neighborhood,” he said. “Please don’t believe the messages and videos, they may be done purposely to cause alarm. The video in question is from Saturday.”
He said police officers around the neighborhood are on alert. “A full staff at the 71st Precinct is monitoring the situation and will keep the community updated,” he said.
The protests erupted across the United States over the death of Floyd, an unarmed black man, at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis. At least 40 cities, including New York City, imposed curfews and National Guard members have been activated in at least 23 states and Washington, DC.
A resident of Crown Heights sent COLlive.com photos of a protest on Monday outside the 77th Precinct. On Twitter, some reported a peaceful protest on Fulton Street and helicopters circling the area.
In an interview on NY1 news on Monday, journalist Errol Louis asked Mayor Bill de Blasio whether the Crown Heights Riots in 1991 were on his mind in the past few days.
“I remember it like it was yesterday, it starts with neighborhood policing — I also learned when there is unrest it has to be resolved in a way there will be a peaceful outcome,” de Blasio said. “I’m very much informed by that very painful experience.”

The man was tweeting last night that nothing was going on in Manhattan and Brooklyn. He has weird eyesight.
for that matter all lives matter
Thank you for the updates
Glad to hear that there were no incidents in crown heights, Baruch Hashem
the shalom in the shechuna is bringing brocha! Baruch Hashem!
Do they all live less than a half-hour away from 770? If not, they’re going to be out and about when they are required to be home on curfew.
They’re just frustrated for being locked in their house for three months.they dont care at all about the incident in Minnesota.
if no one is protesting than the police won’t be scared to hurt and profile black people by people protesting fist of all there is more awareness about this issue
In my opinion, the fact that they passed 770 peacefully borders on a miracle!
Meshulem Feivel Hakohen
Gadi , the Hershkop brothers and all the other special members of shomrim . Forgive me that I don’t know each name . You are malachim ! Leaving your family to protect your community !
Looks like the only people wearing any protective gear are the riot police…not a single photo of anyone social distancing….
Sharpton’s Shabbos march through Crown Heights at the tail end of the riots, after the murder of Yankel Rosenbaum HY”D was also “peaceful.” If you saw that march, as I did, you may well remember the eerie & terrifying feeling that this would not stop. And it hasn’t: Freddy’s in Harlem was a Sharpton event. He and “Hymietown” Jackson are just getting started. Don’t let up your guard for a second. We all know this abomination in Minnesota is the Jews’ fault: it always is. Only Black Lives Matter – Jewish lives certainly don’t. Don’t be complacent.
Can we take a small break to discuss anitisemitism perpetrated by blacks here in New York in general and in our community in particular almost daily?!
“No peace” implies that they’re not capable of being civilized people…that’s what the chant started as – then they decided to put it next to no justice. I dunno, I think it’s time to start fining them, and giving citations. Locking up doesn’t work, maybe when they lose their stimulus checks and unemployment money they’ll care.
Thank you SHOMRIM
Torah, Tfila and masim tovim are key
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL OUR BRAVE BOCHURIM FOR GUARDING 770 AND THANK YOU SO MUCH R. HERSHEY GARFINKEL FOR ORGANIZING AND STRENGTHENING THIS.
1) It is wrong to blame a NYC police officer for the actions of a police officer in Minnesota, just as its wrong to blame a black politician in NYC for the actions of another black politician in another state 2) The fact that the protesters chose to break curfew, assemble and march through NYC streets is an example of lawlessness that is allowed to happen and giving in to the mob. Appeasement. 3) Why don’t NYS Senator Myrie and NYS Assemblywoman Richardson go out and stop looters from destroying property in Manhattan if they think they can do a… Read more »
Mass protests at night are extremely dangerous. We all can see that criminal looters and arsonists take advantage of police being busy and the cover of the night. There is simply no reason to allow this.
5000 people going by 770 and not attacking our neiborhood is a miracle. Notice all jewish areas in brooklyn were spared such as williamsburg and boro park and flatbush.
What we see going on today is a riot. What happened in 1991 was a Pogrom. Let us not loose site of this important distinction. From the Governor to the Mayor to the 71st Precinct refused to stop the violence against us because we are Jews. These so-called leaders gave Al Sharpton, YM’Shmo free rein to incite and lead the Black community to harm us and our property. They also refused to call out the National Guard which could have easily quelled the Pogrom. And, President Bush could have cared less. We owe much gratitude to President Trump for his… Read more »
The NYPD has the highest number of police in the nation. They are
the best-trained. The problem we had with the Pogrom was that the
order for the police to take appropriate action was withheld for 3 days!
This gave free reign to the Pogromists to wreck mayhem and destruction with impunity. In fact, rumor had it that the police were going to stage a mutiny, had the mayor continued to do nothing.
Finally, the order was given for the police to move in. This they did successfully without the National Guard.
an open rebellion against the proper authorities, especially by soldiers or sailors against their officers.
Many of us crown Heights’rs have to ask siri what that means so im just making it easier
