We want a yes dear children!
March 13, 2013 6:08 pm

I remember the summers that Rabbi Goldstein was the camp rabbi in CGI Detroit. We used to chant “We want a yes dear children!” And Rabbi Goldstein would tell us to efirst say, “Yes, Rabbi Goldstein,” and then he’d respond, “Yes, dear children” same way as on the tapes. The stories, halachos and divrei Torah he shared during the summer were so memorable and with me still, 30 years later.

amaizing update

I remember my Zaidy knew how to relate to anyone on their level and make them smile
March 11, 2013 9:31 am

He had a very unique sense of humor which made people of all ages laugh
Who remembers
He used to explain that on pesach chometz represents “hepech hatov” and matzah represents kdusha
Then in a humor all his own he would say
Bechol sor vador omdim olenu Le-“CHALA”-seinu, vehakadoshbaruch hu “MATZA”-lenu miyodom
Despite his vast knowledge of Chasidus, kabbala, Astronomy and physics, he never lost the ability to go down and relate to the level of his student even if the student was a child.

In the 80s I attended Rabbi Engel's minyin Shabbos morning
March 10, 2013 8:21 pm

It always began with Uncle Yossi’s story time! For those who arrive 30min early before the minyin started He left a very string impression on me His commentary throughout davening made it very real!! He would tell us that there are 26 keys Ki Leolam chasdo Also Till today I’m careful to say ashrei 3x a day which he said guarantees a yid to go streight into Gan Eden. Also He also made a strong positive impression on me re birchas cohanim After modim of chazoras hashatz He would always remind us to look at the chazan to recieve the… Read more »

Fond memories going back many years . Actually first met “Uncle Yossie” wwhen he was Principal/Headmaster at Beis Yavov in Boro Pk, the time I was marketting my world’s first kosher ABC Book!. Stories flowed from him everyway. Particularly remember him speaking under the chupa of Yossi and Chayala..

Thank you it makes the loss alittle less excruciating to see how his efforts continue to live on and surely give him much Nachas in shomayim as he takes in the scope of impact his sacrifice and toyel over the years for yiddishkeit!

He deeply believed that the light of Torah and Chassidus is THE single greatest life gift he can offer anybody who wants to improve all areas of his or her life

March 8, 2013 5:59 pm

I just want to share something I found so special about my Zaidy. His Emunah and connection with Hashem was so incredible! Every time we’d visit, and until his last days, he would give us a lesson why we need to thank Hashem, and how we can make everyday special seeing Hashem’s hashgacha pratis. Hashem was every part of him. He would spend many hours davening. We can all remember him meticulously saying each and every word of his tefilos. May we take all that he represented and with his emunah and love for Hashem and make it apart of… Read more »

Pesach in Ann Arbor
March 8, 2013 12:16 am

Would enjoy the seders Uncle Yossi used to lead for the college kids for many years in Ann Arbor. How Uncle Yossi had us all say all the Shnemars out loud was just great. Years later my children and I listen to his recordings before bed and just love his sweet voice filled with Ahavas Yisroel. The shine from his hechal must be just blinding from all the Yiddishkeit and Ahavas Yisroel he and his children have spread out over all the years. He will be sorely missed. Moshiach Now!!!!!!!!

No he didn’t really live with us, but one day a week my children could chok a chianik without getting into trouble. My grandkids are too young to know him, I hope someone will step into Uncle Yossie’s shoes to be a living role model the way he was for so many years.
Condolences to all the family, and to klal Yisroel. We lost someone really special.

Who can forget the hock a chainek march???I remember being on his show, going to his house and recording …. I think I still know every one of his story tapes by heart! When i was in High school, we used to go to his house right after the meal and he would give us a shiur. Not much can get teenagers out of the house on cold Friday nights… I remember everyone listening the whole time… In retrospect, it’s amazing to think how he gave a group of teenagers his Friday night, week after week. I remember Mrs. Goldstien… Read more »

A true inspiration to us all. For a couple of years through my school years he would have a full car on his way to Bais Yaacov. Myself, my sister, Rabbi Leibel Groners brother and the cook from bais yaacov(forgive me I forgot her name, such a nice lady). Magical storytime on the way to school. How lucky we were.
Another one of his countless nieces

We all have to remember that it was Uncle Yossi that wrote many kids songs that are sung today.
Hashem is here Hashem is there, is just one of many that are sung for kids.

I met him as a 12 year old. I was on his radio program a couple of times. I was the child speaker at the fourth annual tzivos hashem dinner. He was at my Bar Mitzvah, where he gave me a copy of the Tanya . We learned Tanya together. He was like a member of my family,
He will be missed,

I had the zechus to spend time with both Rabbi and Mrs Goldstein at Camp Gan Israel Detroit many years ago Rabbi Goldstein was the camp rabbi not only listening in when he told the whole camp his stories in which all the children were glued to their seats including myself but also just being with them on daily basis was truly a special pleasure to be able to spend my summers with a chassidishe couple who walked in the ways of chassihkeit. I still remember Uncle Yossi when he would say to me you must be a dogma chaya… Read more »

I used to go to Tanya classes at his home on 604 Empire blvd. right after candle lighting time. It wasn’t only the material he taught, but rather how he taught it…not to be missed…May his memory be blessed and an inspiration for his family and all those who knew him…
