Thirteen Chabad on Campus Rabbis and their wives, representing almost every major campus in the UK where there are a sizeable number of Jewish students, met this week to discuss the vital issues facing Jewish students today on campus.
The 2-day conference took place at Chabad of Bloomsbury’s new students’ centre in Central London with the participation of Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, vice chairman of Merkos Linyonei Chinuch, Rabbi Nachman Sudak OBE, Head of Chabad-Lubavitch UK and Rabbi Eli Brackman, Chairman of Chabad on Campus UK.
Rabbi Shmuel Lew, who together with Rabbi Faivish Vogel was a founder of Chabad UK’s pioneering work on campus since the 1960’s also attended, as did Dr. Tali Loewenthal.
There were roundtable discussions on a variety of issues of importance to Jewish life on campus, including the creation of new and exciting educational initiatives; tackling Anti-Semitism on campus; and the launch of a new annual 3-week Israel educational trip during the summer for Jewish students from all backgrounds.
Other issues discussed were helping students with anxiety and exam stress; family and job balance for the Rabbis and their wives; and a presentation about the Chabad on Campus UK website.
At the Conference dinner, gratitude was expressed to Oxford alumnus and community philanthropist, Mr. David Slager, for his generous support and partnership that has enabled Chabad on Campus UK to enlist dedicated and trained men and women to serve the approximately 10,000 Jewish students across the UK, providing a warm and loving home, away from home for Jewish students, alongside other dedicated Jewish organisations on Campus.
