Ori Even, a contributor to the Tzinor Layla nightly program on Israel’s Channel 10 TV, stumbled upon video clips of the Rebbe on YouTube and decided to do a segment about it.
“The Lubavitcher Rebbe is without a doubt the most dominant Jewish figure in our generation and even 2 decades after his passing, his words continue to make waves,” he opened.
What he discovered was the collection of clips posted online by JEM (Jewish Educational Media), a Chabad organization that edits and distributed audio and visual material of the Rebbe’s life and teachings.
Even first showed a video of a Caesar Adas, a Jewish businessman from Brazil that came to the Rebbe’s asking for a blessing in his dealings in the black market.
The request was closely watched by the reporter and the host of the show, Gay Lerer, to see how the Rebbe responds and what would be his moral message to the man.
After watching the clip, Even told the viewers, “the Rebbe obviously didn’t bless the man. When the man reported about legal bank dealings, the Rebbe gave his blessings.”
Even added that the staff of JEM have tracked down Mr. Adas, asking for permission for air the clip.
“Adas told them that he has ended his interaction with the black market and has since made a good fortune. His partner who remained in that line of work about has reportedly suffered losses,” Even reported.
Others clips shown on Israeli television were Brazilian banker Edmond Safra pledging the Rebbe $1 million and Israeli Justice Minister Avraham Sharir hearing from the Rebbe’s strong words about the need for Israel to stand strong amid international pressure.
Hearing the Rebbe’s message to Israeli government officials, the TV presenters agreed: “The Rebbe’s advice could have been relevant today and forever.”

The Rebbe always stressed to keep it legal. When he gave money to people going to foreign country, he would say: “You should exchange it in a legal way” (“oisbaitin oif a legalishin oifen”). Some people think you don’t have to follow the law of the land if nobody gets hurt. That was not the Rebbe’s approach. You ALWAYS have to follow the law, even if you have an oppportunity to make a lot of money, or save a lot of money, and even if you plan to use the money for a good cause or save money for a… Read more »
