U.S. President Donald Trump called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from Air Force One on Wednesday to congratulate him on his victory in the national elections in Israel.
Netanyahu said he thanked Trump “for his tremendous support of Israel, including recognition in Jerusalem and the Golan, as well as the steadfast position against the Iranian regime, including the president’s recent decision against Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.”
Netanyahu secured a fifth term in office, which will likely make him the longest-serving prime minister in Israeli history.
Speaking with news reporters at the White House, Trump commented: “I think we have now a better chance with Bibi having won. He’s been a great ally and he’s a friend. I’d like to congratulate him on a well-thought-out race.”
On Twitter, President Trump was particularly proud of a single photo showing a Trump campaign poster being held up at the Likud victory celebration on Tuesday night.
