Friendship Circle Toronto recently hosted their annual volunteer kick off and training session with a record number of volunteers attending and signing up.
“This display of enthusiasm speaks volumes of the interest of teenagers to get involved in a meaningful program,? said Rabbi Yitzchok Grossbaum. The over 120 volunteers Friendship Circle Toronto hail from 18 different schools in the Greater Toronto area and beyond.
Each volunteer received the Moshe Hecht single “My Friend”, the inspirational song he composed for the special children.
As the volunteers entered the auditorium at 770 Chabad Gate, they were welcomed by an upbeat atmosphere which prevailed and included music, chocolate fondue and decadents, a variety of smoothies, and doughnuts decorated with the Friendship Circle logo.
After the volunteers learned some vital information from an OT whose presentation included how to make every moment a learning experience, the veteran and new volunteers were divided into two different groups. Long-standing volunteers had a 1.5 hour of advanced training session with a social worker who enlightened them in areas of the special needs arena. The newcomers learnt about some of the fundamentals from Mrs. Esther Grossbaum who launched the Toronto chapter eight years ago. After hearing some first- hand experiences from an active volunteer who has participated since its inception, Goldy Grossbaum led a hands-on workshop.
Indeed the Friendship Circle has gained much recognition as a dynamic program which responds to multiple concerns and successfully brings diverse segments together in a most meaningful manner.
