Though the snow is just beginning to recede, the administration of Camp Gan Israel of Toronto, Ontario is already deep in the planning stages, including new initiatives for the upcoming season.
In truth, the process began much earlier.
Just as the campers were boarding the buses and bidding farewell to each other after the first incredible summer, the construction crew was busy bringing in the earth moving tractors to clear space for more bunk houses.
Now nearly complete, the new area and bunkhouse contribute beautifully to the symmetric design of the entire camp site with the Dining Room and Shul at the center of all the auxiliary structures.
With so much activity going on at the waterfront the decision was made to enhance and upgrade this activity. Enlarging the swimming area, replacing the docks with brand new ones, and the addition of sailboats to enhance the watercraft fleet, are just a few examples of this.
Special instructors will teach the campers (and counselors) the skills needed for the exhilarating experience of sailboating. Above the ground (pun intended) the administration is currently working to create a rope climbing parkette for all the children to enjoy.
The head staff for the summer of 5773 are:
Berel Bendet – Minnesota
Itchy Glasner – Montreal
Mendy Grossbaum – Toronto
Shneur Zalman Minkowitz – Montreal
Heading a brand new program for Bar Mitzvah Boys geared specially for boys this age will be Shmuly Grossbaum – Toronto.
Another new initiative is the “Mazel Tov First Timer” program which provides a $1000 discount from the posted camp fee for first-time campers donated by the Moses & Temara Tobe Foundation. This opportunity is available to any and all boys that as yet have not attended an overnight camp program.
