40 Bochurim at Mesivta Lubavitch Toronto recently concluded learning the entire Mesechta Shabbos by heart, after an intense year of tireless learning.
Throughout the year, the students took monthly tests on 16 blat at a time, and were now finally were ready for oral tests on the entire mesechta at once by Toronto’s foremost Rabonim.
On Thursday, the Bochurim were tested by Harav Ochs Shlita, Mara D’asra, and member of the Beis Din Tzedek of Toronto, in the beis medresh of the Yeshivah.
That night at 8 pm, the grand Siyum took off in the big zal of the yeshivah. The event was opened by Hatomim Hashliach Menachem Mendel Oster, who headed the Mivtza. He congratulated the Bochurim on their grand achievement, pointing out that many of them did not think it possible for them to accomplish this great feat, yet with perseverance and with their clear goal in mind, they were successful in accomplishing what many of them deemed impossible.
Next he invited Hatomim Menachem Mendel Felberman, who conducted the Siyum on the entire Mesechta, – Ba’al Peh. He encouraged the Bochurim to keep their hard earned profit, by Chazering the Gemoro they have learned, as they walk in the street. He thanked the Shluchim for constantly nudging the bocherim, to carry on, and not give up.
Rabbi Oster, the Menehal of the Mesivta, spoke next. He reiterated the importance of a Bochur filling even his free time with the learning of Torah. Thus, he congratulated all the Bochurim who utilized their spare time for Torah learning, whether it was Mivtza Torah, learning their own Mesechta, learning extra Chasidus, etc.
He then invited Dr. Chaim Goldberg, the father of Moshe Dovid Golberg, a bocher who had learned the mesechta baal paeh, to offer a few words. Dr. Goldberg spoke from the heart; sharing the nachas he had with his son being constantly involved with his goal, waking up many mornings, in the wee hours, to accomplish the memorizing of an entire Mesechta. He thanked The director of the Mivtza, for his dedication to the project, and his efforts that the most possible Bochurim would join.
Hatomim Shmuel Korf recited a Sicha of the Rebbe on the topic of Shabbos, and discussed various Halachos pertaining to a Siyum.
Last, Rabbi Gorman, beloved Magid Shiur of Shiur Gimmel, spoke with praise of the bochurim who had given themselves over to the accomplishment of this fantastic feat. Yoga’ata Umatzasa Ta’amin.
