The Elstree Shteibel of Borehamwood, England celebrated the completion of a new Torah scroll with much singing and dancing last Sunday.
The Torah was dedicated by Mr. Mendel Tajtelbaum in memory of his late father Reb Yitzchok Dovid Tajtelbaum, a remarkable man who survived the Holocaust and from its ashes rebuilt his family and helped to rekindle the flame of Judaism.
At the event, which was a great display of Jewish pride, many people were offered the opportunity to put on Tefillin, including a Holocaust survivor who put on Tefillin for the first time.
The Elstree Shteibel has recently marked its first anniversary, offering Jewish programs and services to local residents.
The United Synagogue affiliated shul in Hertfordshire county is located in an historic inn, The Artichoke, whose first record of a pub is as early as 1450. It was purchased by Mendel Tajtelbaum and transformed as a center for prayer and learning.
